GvG feedback for 5/5?

Just wondering how things went.
Anything of particular interest?
Any proposed build changes?

Personally, I found the Blindbot very fun to play. The rit was a larger challenge for me (lack of play on with the role in our current hall), but still enjoyable. Being on the gank squad is very interesting (although I need to really spend some time playing an assassin for those times we need another one).

One thing that seems to be gaining popularity is the warriors using Conjure Flame with Sun and Moon Slash/Hundred Blades. Also seeing this with Rangers. Is this something we are interesting in introducing in for our warriors? If so, then I am wondering if we want to go with Flame or switch to Frost instead (since more people are more likely to protect against Fire or Lightning).

Hmm, reminds me...

Last time I GvGed with ya all, the enemy had two "Conjure Frost" warriors with swords. They seemed to be using Frozen Spikes, or something like that as well as their Snare skill.

Now I can say as the Mesmer I was playing they could kick my ass, but that mesmer build could have been killed by just about anything, so that's not really saying much.

Actually I wasn't all impressed with them. Not sure why, it's a Decent Idea. Hell, I've had a Conjure Lightning Ranger before myself. It wasn't all that exciting or impressive when I played it. *shrug* It might be a good idea if you wanted to run something like a Ranger Spike, have most of them as R/Es with Conjure in addition to the usual buffs.

Re: GvG feedback for 5/5?

The weekend was pretty much business as usual, actually. We had a few folks playing roles they weren't familiar with. Although that may have made things more of a challenge for us, it was actually a god thing, in that it expands our options a little more each time we do that.

All of the matches we played vs close-ranked opponents were pretty even. We lost a couple on simple tactical errors. In one match, we let a decided advantage evaporate because we did not have a planned response to the opponent's offenisve gank.

We went 8v8 at the teleporter exit at first. We were at a standstill until without anyonenoticing, they sent a 3 man + thief ganks squad (Sin, Monk, Derv(?)) with the thief towards our back door. We pushed them back all the way into their hall as a team of 8, through the back door. They fell back into their NPCs which stalled our advance, but we were still taking them down. About that time, Pie called that they were in our base. That's where our advantage ended. Without any set plan on how to respond defensively, a mild panic set in and we sent a haphazard group back to defend. The gankers left the hall before we could even get one kill, but our advance was not only stopped, but we were also pushed from their hall.

In another match, we inadvertantly allowed the opponent to get inside our hall after their thief was dead by opening the gates for them. We had the advantage then as well, and were forced to retreat en masse to our base to defend. We ended up losing flag control never to regain it, and eventually lost because we couldn't muster up enough offensive power due to DP.

Overall, although we lost more than we won, it was educational. The build itself seems to be working fine. We're slowly getting more people comfortable in differing roles, and we're learning from our tactical errors as well.

I'm going to start a new thread to discuss our defensive response to a gank. Having a plan for that would have made a huge difference.
