Re: Team Build Discussion, Feb 08- Pressure Part Deux
I don't know what was covered in the post-game, since I had to leave rather abruptly, but here are few of my impressions...
- We all still need some time in our respective roles to get them down pat, as expected
- I believe from the testing that we did that we have an effective gank, should we need it.
- I'm not so sure about the ability to do enough damage to hold our position at the flagstand if we do send the Rit and the Axe on a gank- I think we will be far better served to keep the group together as much as possible
- targetting is something I think we need to take a look at. It seems to me that the Mesmer should be targetting one monk, the Ranger another while the warriors build adrenaline and then try to spike a different target altogether, possibly with support of the Rit and the Paragon- the spiking will take some work on the two players running the warriors, as well as recognition on their part of when a target selected for spiking is protted or in a ward
- Overall, I thought the build was fun to play. I liked the Ranger position on the midline as it gives me a better feel for the battle as a whole
- oh, and yeah... Catapult shots are fun
edited to add: Lestalt, can you post the template for the build with the modifications we made?

Re: Team Build Discussion, Feb 08- Pressure Part Deux
I think we should stick mending refrain back in on the Paragon for supporting the monks. We are really quite short on healing and every little bit helps. If it falls off between fights we will be responsible for calling it to be reapplied.

Re: Team Build Discussion, Feb 08- Pressure Part Deux
What would the monks prefer, the +3 pips of health regen, which should theoretically be kept up throughout the battles, or
Finale of Restoration
5/1/10
Echo. For 10...30 seconds, whenever a Chant or Shout ends on target non-Spirit ally, that ally is healed for 15...63 Health
Not as perpetual as the +3 pips of Mending Refrain, but would seem to provide significantly more healing.
Personally, I'd prefer the Anthem of Flame for the extra damage. Plus it's just simpler to play. But if the monks feel we need the additional healing, then I have no problem with using MR or another healing motivation skill.

Agreed. I think a pressure build, by definition, needs to be a whole to be really effective. I'd like to avoid splitting unless necessity absolutely dictates it.
Of course, that could change once we get really good with this build.

Re: Team Build Discussion, Feb 08- Pressure Part Deux
I would like to try them out. Refrain sounds better but I wonder if it can be really maintain during a battle. If not then Finale of Restoration my be the better choice. However it requires you to make a decision each time you cast it rather than just keeping the chants running.
I am not opposed to anthem of flame but I dont know if i see the benefit. We could possible run this also. If it adds to the damage and overall confusion of the other team thinking we are some kind of covert SF bulid then maybe it has its place.

Re: Team Build Discussion, Feb 08- Pressure Part Deux
Finale of Restoration basically is requiring you to actively heal targets that need it, instead of being on offense. I don't like that.
Mending Refrain you cast and forget. It is up for 20s, and will heal for 120hp over that time while up, even if you don't reset it with a Shout or Chant ending. If it gets reset thats a bonus. I am sure with a little practice you could keep it up all the time. Also it is a good skill to have on anyone that has been Rezzed to help counter the DP.
Anthem of Flame works if you don't want to run Mending Refrain. Really depends on how our games go and how we win and lose that will determine which skill would be better to have. Unfortunately we don't know that until after the game is over.

Re: Team Build Discussion, Feb 08- Pressure Part Deux
Another advantage to Mending Refrain is once applied it can not be stripped. The only thing that could happen is it expires. I do not even think it shows on the status bar so the other team will not be aware of it. It will just look like we have super monks!
My impressions from the Front Line as the hammer warrior.
I really do prefer sword, but the hammer was fun. Once you get your skills charged, the amount of damage you can bring to bear is rather impressive. Plus if you knock them down the first time and then wait a little bit on the second knock down you can keep them down for about 5 seconds. AND then if they try to run after the second one you get them back down with Bull's Strike (which was hitting for 100 against the monks).
One small change though with all the blocking going around, we might put in Griffon's Sweep (or the other one) instead of Bull's Strike. It was hard to hit with Bull's Strike because of the slow swing. Usually if you are chasing someone down they are stopped by the time you actually hit them with it. This would be a 5e skill swapped for another 5e skill (and the conditional is more easier met).

True, but I never really felt like I was on offense. I was just flinging spears at the closest non-blocking target to build adrenaline. The only time I ever intentionally switched to the called target was when it was called for, or someone called out "target of opportunity!".
I'll switch to MR for now and we'll see how it goes.

Finale of Restoration doesn't show up, and cannot be stripped either. Actually, I'm not sure that any of the Paragon buffs have any visual cues.

This may be something we want to do, but I would hold off on it for now. I think it may have been more of a timing issue if you weren't able to KD with Bulls Strike often. Once your target starts to run, you should be able to Enraging Charge or Rush them to catch up quickly enough to KD again before they actually stop. Also, I'm not sure how much kiting was going on, but our opponents didn't seem to be exactly experts in that regard, so they may not have been running as much as most better monks would have been.
Let's play with Bulls for a bit longer and see how it goes. You're also sacrificing damage with Griffon's Sweep, something we can't afford to overlook.

Re: Team Build Discussion, Feb 08- Pressure Part Deux
Another thought that came to mind... I don't recall hearing much/any calls for disenchantment.
I think that's something we need to work on. Since we will have the Hammer Warrior pretty much following one opposing monk around, the Mesmer on another and myself moving back and forth between them and a few others, I would think that someone should notice when Aegis goes up and call for a Mirror right then and there to remove it from the entire party.
We can also begin to try to coordinate spikes with the two Warriors, with the MEsmer adding Shatter to the mix as well, both for the armor ignoring damage and the help it gives the Warrior in hitting their targets.
This all means that the Mesmer MUST NOT use those skills for any other purpose though. They are "mission critical" and should not be wasted on other non-essential uses.
