Holy trinity of Rangers (PvE - Heroes)
I've been playing around a bit with my ranger lately. Getting her to Elona and aquiring heroes - Jin and Magrid of course! Why have one ranger when you can have three.
So I've got this little holy trinity of girl power going (why are all the ranger heroes female, anyhow?) Figured I'd share and see if you guys can find improvements.
The general run down is Ranger/Paragon for all three, and the combination of 'disrupting accuracy' (preparation - when critical, attack also interupts) and 'go for the eyes' (adrenaline costing shout that increase the chance of critical for all allies, including pets) on all three. The more the merrier.
Lots of GftE = lots of criticals = a carpet of cheap and cheerful interupts.
Infuriating heat on one hero means more adrenaline, which means more GftE. Plus with that many rangers, you kind of have to take 'favourable winds' on the other.
Human ranger - beastmaster.
Atributes:
Beastmaster 11
Expertise 9
Markmanship 8
Command 8
(Sup Beastmaster rune and minor markmanship to get up to 9 for bow req. - those are the vital runes, the rest are to taste.)
Yes the attributes are spread rather thin. Probably would be more efficient to drop the beastmaster thing and go bowtwanger. But I like my pootle.
Skills:
Brutal strike or Melandrus assault
Feral lunge
Ferocious strike {E}
Go for the Eyes
Disrupting accuracy
Call of Haste
Charm animal
Revive animal
Jin:
Expertise 10
Markmanship 11
Command 10
(Sup markmanship rune)
Burning arrow{E}
Hunter's shot
Crossfire
Go for the eyes
Disrupting accuracy
Favourable winds
Charm animal
Signet of return
Magrid:
Expertise 10
Markmanship 11
Command 10
(Sup markmanship rune)
Powershot
Hunter's shot
Crossfire
Go for the eyes
Disrupting accuracy
Infuriating heat {E}
Charm animal
Signet of return
The hero pets are just meatshields, some extra bodies to get into the way for the foes. With no pet-attacks and no points in beastmastery. They are highly optional, I like pets, so I include them.

Pets so rock. That's why all my Dervish and Assassin's heroes have R secondaries and pets. The extra bodies really does help.
If I were you I'd also toss in Zenmai as a A/R bowman. She does a reall good job with it. (Plus, more girl power. )

Re: Holy trinity of Rangers (PvE - Heroes)
Alas! No factions so Zenmai wil have to miss out on the girl power for me.
I do think that General Morghann, once I get far along enough in NF with this character, might be a good third hero.
As a paragon/ranger - with pet, of course.
All those GftE flying around... load him up with a bunch of echoes and we're good to go.
Mending refrain, purifying finale, finale of restoration, chorus of restoration, blade turn refrain...
Burning refrain/blazing finale (on the pets) would be nice too, if he applied them to anyone other than himself without manual micromanagement of his skills.
We're talking all those echoes that trigger / reapply themselves everytime a shout ends.

Don't forget Agressive Refrain. Attack speed boosts ftw.

Re: Holy trinity of Rangers (PvE - Heroes)
I am raising a ranger now whom I dearly love. I played a para before her and thought I might mention this: they have nerfed GftE so that it does not affect pets or allies not in the immediate party. If you are shouting it for yourself and other party members, go for it, but it will not help the pet to get a crit. I liked it better when it let everyone have it including the minions
For me, it would be too expensive to put all that in command just to get th one spell, but that is my play style, not yours. I run a build sometimes that I love with an ele second taking Conjure Flame with me either instead of a prep with Barrage or with a prep and Burning Arrow. (I only have a couple elites ATM). When I run the ele build I am spread just as thin, if not more so.
I'm glad you are enjoying the ranger! I love mine, wouldn't trade her in at all! So far she is the first char I have ever played that ties with my monk for my favorite!
Have fun!

Re: Holy trinity of Rangers (PvE - Heroes)
Yeah yeah, I know, A-Net just hates Rangers and Pets. Blackouts, needing "Special" skills to raise them, no more shout boosts... Even made a Necromancer skill that specifically targets people with Dead Pets.
Still, I don't regret taking pets. In fact my Dervish and his crew all take pets (As does my assassin's team). I find often that with my Survivor Title track Dervish having pets there to draw aggro is the difference between Mission Accomplished and Death. More than once I've been saved because 2 or three pets drew the aggro off me.
As far as Pet Attacks go I only ever seem to use Poisonous Bite and Pounce on my heroes. They are actually oddly proficient at using Pounce to interrupt. Go figure. And Poisonous Bite, because, well, More Degen never hurt anyone.

Re: Holy trinity of Rangers (PvE - Heroes)
Anet are really determined to kill the paragon class and suck the fun out of the PvE-side of game.
Although, for this application, the gfte weren't to boost the pets, that was just a nice side effect, it was to fuel disrupting accuracy, keen arrow, and the refrains. The pets are just meat shields to get into the way.

Re: Holy trinity of Rangers (PvE - Heroes)
Gotcha. As a group of us was saying last night, everyone has his/her own play-style and that's the way it should be. I like to use my pet more since it really does some damage, but others prefer to dish it out themselves. What makes the game fun is finding out all types of neat things to do with sub classes and adding those skills together with your main classes to make a character that is truly unique! Glad you are enjoying your ranger. I love mine. Now to just get to more elites...

Re: Holy trinity of Rangers (PvE - Heroes)
Sigh... the "Fixed" the bug with Heroes and Pets. Heroes with this last update they had now get the "Pet Death Blackouts"... sigh. A-net just hates pets. They've been nerfed time and time again. I can't recall one time in my whole experience playing from Beta onwards that pets got any sort of Power Up fix. ^^;;
Oh well. I still like it. It's not too much of a drawback. Just not as powerful as it used to be. I still find it effective though. My paragon's Goren is still a force to be reckoned with, charging into battle with his trust Rat.

Re: Holy trinity of Rangers (PvE - Heroes)
I noticed the same thing this weekend (Hero blackout). The only good thing that I can thing they did recently for pets was to remove the body blocking they did against me. That was a nice change. Other than that though I agree that not much has helped the poor pet.
