Re: BA Ganksman (PvX)

Re: BA Ganksman (PvX)
I think screaming shot works if you don't want the extra interrupt. I wouldn't think its overkill, could be countering some regen or kicking in between burning.
Go with Mending Touch, if you have energy issues give the Signet a try.
Pin Down is another choice. Could help with making an escape, and useful on the Flag Runners when with the party. High energy cost but worth it imo.
Either would provide another condition skill to trigger with the Signet if you end up going that route. I think the Signet would be a better choice if you decide to bring Pin Down due to the better E-management.

Re: BA Ganksman (PvX)
Found the MoD. So here is the run down for Ranger skills only:
Poison+Burning Arrow= 27dps
Barbed+BA=29dps
Since the build is setup with poison I tried the other bow skills the only ones that come close are:
Screaming Shot-36dps including bleeding
Sloth Hunter's Shot-36dps including conditional
Keen Arrow-31dps including conditional
Everything else was mid to low 20's and teens. Disrupting Shot give the same dps as Distracting shot (13 dps)without the extra conditional interupt time.
Pyx did a test on the MoD and he is 60 Armor.
Anyway, there are the facts, you decide.....

Re: BA Ganksman (PvX)
I've played around with the master of damage, and found his numbers to be a rough estimate at best.
I mean how could Barbed+BA do more damage than Poison+BA when poison is a pip more than bleeding?
But, we can argue this until we're blue in the face.
I think whomever is going to run the build can decide on whatever skills they want for these flex spots.
We all seem to agree that the core of the build is still:
Burning Arrow
Distracting Shot
Apply Poison
Troll Ungent
Natural Stride
and some form of condition removal.

Re: BA Ganksman (PvX)
I missed the difference between Disrupting and Distracting. In fact, I just now became aware that there was such as skill as Disrupting Shot
Something else to possibly experiment with would be using the slot in question for one of the following:
Throw Dirt- good for solo ganking when counters arrive, good at the stand as well, cheap
Lightning Reflexes- for increased attack speed to increase DPS
Snare or Barbed Trap- lay trap in your escape route before ganking, allows for easier retreat
Just some food for thought.

Re: BA Ganksman (PvX)
To further confuse things!:
Could bring Poison Tip Signet and change the Preparation to Kindle Arrows, Rapid Fire, Barbed Arrow or some other prep. Still get poison and I bet you could pump out a lot more damage.

Re: BA Ganksman (PvX)
Well, it's safe to say that we have a lot of options to try out here.
I kinda like the trap idea.
But my biggest question now is, does this character need a rez sig?
I think we currently have 3 sigs and no hard rez (the 2 warriors and the AP build).
So it would seem like we need one, but the idea of having one on a ganker seems like it might be a waste, since there's a good chance he won't be around when you need it.

Re: BA Ganksman (PvX)
I played with a build using:
Poison Tip Signet
Burning Arrow
Forked Arrow
Kindle Arrows
Troll Unguent
Distracting Shot
Natural Stride
Mending Touch
I found that I could effectively fil the role of a ganker with ease using this build. It delivers poison and bleeding on a target, and also far increased DPS. According to the Master of Damage, I was averaging in the high 50's, which means faster kills, and more effective ganking even in the face of a response- you can kill more before they respond.
There is a sacrifice in the flagstand ability of the build in terms of poison. It is far easier to spread poison using Apply, but the build can still spread Burning and do more damage if called to assist on the called target.
The point spread I was using was Expertise 13 (11+2), Marksmanship 11 (10+1), Wilderness 11 (10+1), Protection Prayers 1.
There were little to no energy concerns, using Radiant Insignias on all armor and one Rune of Attunement. I think it is quite feasible to drop Expertise down to 9 (7+2) and add the points saved back in to Marksmanship for increased damage. That however, is untested.
Incidentally, all damage calculations were done using a Recurve bow, which is much more effective than a longbow, except when facing the Bodyguard, who you would want to stay out of range of.

Re: BA Ganksman (PvX)
I was using the Poison Tip Signet and Burning Arrow as a Ranger in AB last night and it was doing pretty. I had coupled this with Disrupting Accuracy as my prep, but Rapid Fire would have been nice to increase attack speed. I could have brought along Favorable Winds, but was worried about having time to lay it down each time. Although I think I will couple it with Kindle Arrows next time.
Another thought to couple the Poison being spread with Toxicity(15/5/60). This will give another -2 Health degen to all enemies with poison.

When I ran the build in GvG I ran with
expertise: 12 (10+1+1)
marks: 11 (10+1)
wilderness: 12 (11+1)
Unfortunately there were still times when I was stressed for energy. Not during ganking, but when I was with the flag team. Spamming burning and forked arrow, coupled with more often using of mending touch caused energy issues at times.
I think a better point distribution would be the one listed in the wiki build:
expertise: 14 (12+1+1)
marks: 10 (9+1)
wilderness: 10 (9+1)
10 is a good breakpoint for the builds skills in both marks and wilderness. Plus the 14 in expertise makes BA and FA only 4 energy, and all the remaining skills are just 2 energy (except for mending touch).
