Equinox Trapper (GvG)
For the equinox component of the Team Exhaustion build. Plus traps for defense and general harassment of the opposition.
Ranger/Warrior
Expertise: 13 (12+1)
Wilderness Survival: 15 (12+3)
Tactics: 3
- Barbed Trap (Wilderness Survival)
When Barbed Trap is triggered, all nearby foes are struck for 23 piercing damage, become Crippled, and begin Bleeding for 25 seconds. Barbed Trap ends after 90 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.
Energy:7 Cast:2 Recharge:20
- Flame Trap (Wilderness Survival)
When Flame Trap is triggered, every second (for 3 seconds total), all nearby foes are struck for 20 fire damage and set on fire for 3 second(s). Flame Trap ends after 90 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.
Energy:5 Cast:2 Recharge:20
- Dust Trap (Wilderness Survival)
When Dust Trap is triggered, every second (for 5 seconds total), all nearby foes are Blinded for 8 seconds and take 25 damage. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted. Dust Trap ends after 90 seconds.
Energy:12 Cast:2 Recharge:30
- Snare (Wilderness Survival)
When Snare is triggered, all nearby foes become Crippled for 15 seconds. Snare ends after 90 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.
Energy:2 Cast:2 Recharge:20
- Equinox [Elite] (Wilderness Survival)
Create a level 10 spirit. Spells cast within its range that causes Exhaustion cause double the Exhaustion instead. This spirit dies after 150 seconds.
Energy:5 Cast:3 Recharge:15
- Trapper's Speed (Expertise)
For 27 seconds, your Traps recharge 25% faster and activate 25% faster. This Stance ends if you successfully hit with an attack.
Energy:2 Cast:0 Recharge:20
- Protector's Defense (Tactics)
For 6 seconds, adjacent allies have a 75% chance to block incoming attacks. Protector's Defense ends if you move.
Energy:2 Cast:0 Recharge:30
- Resurrection Signet ()
Resurrect target party member. That party member is returned to life with 100% Health and 25% Energy. You may use this Signet only once per mission.
Energy:0 Cast:3 Recharge:0
Should be equipped with a staff with energy buffs.
I really wanted to have Trapper's Speed in there, which is why I took Protector's Defense, as it's the only decent non-stance blocking skill I could find.
Although it may be better to have Natural Stride and something else in there in place of those 2 skills. Will have to test.
Also, Dust Trap can be used to help protect the spirit from melee attackers.

Re: Equinox Trapper (GvG)
Natural stride is... not good for a "Blocking" stance. Often if you have assassins after you the first thing they do is Hex you up, thus canceling the stance. If you get in trouble, first thing monks usually do is Enchant you up, thus canceling out the stance.
I'd probably run a combination of Dryder's Defense and Whirling Defense. Both block, one gives you the additional damage, one gives you additional Element defense.
Not sure if Protector's Defense is still "Bugged" or not. Originally it didn't block attacks coming at you, the user. With GW:EN it has started to block those attacks. No telling when they might "Fix" it.

Re: Equinox Trapper (GvG)
Good point on Natural Stride.
Now just have to figure out whether to take the 2 blocking skills, or the Trapper's Speed/Protector's Defense combo.
Although I suppose it would be possible to take something like Whirling Defense and Trapper's Speed, and just use them separately.
Trapper's Speed when it's 'safe', and Whirling Defense in the middle of battle.

Re: Equinox Trapper (GvG)
That's what the Mandragor enemies in the Charr Homelands do. It is... fairly effective. At elast for being monsters. Those trappers right outside Longeye's can prove annoying.

Re: Equinox Trapper (GvG)
Are two cripple traps better than a cripple and a knock down to slow the runner?

Re: Equinox Trapper (GvG)
Well, the only knockdown options with traps are Spike Trap and Tripwire. Spike Trap is out because it's elite.
I looked at tripwire, and the only reason I didn't add it was because of the cripple requirement. I realize that you get that out Barbed or Snare, but if you place them on top of each other, I don't know if the cripple will be inflicted before the tripwire fires.
Of course you could place the cripple trap 'before' the tripwire, but you can't be sure exactly which way they'll come from. If it's triggered from someone coming from another direction, all we get out of it is a measly 20 damage.
Definitely something worth testing though.

Re: Equinox Trapper (GvG)
I remember this debate coming up earlier and the information presented at the end was that the Cripple effect goes on first.
Still, pretty easy to test. I am willing to do a scrimmage with someone to see how it works exactly.

If it's not random, and consistently works that way, then definitely worth going with tripwire.
If not, then another option is vipers nest. Even with just the garbage points in beast mastery you still get a 9 second poison out of it, which should help put additional pressure on their monks.

Re: Equinox Trapper (GvG)
I'm with GT on the KD. These traps will not have nearly the effectiveness they should if the opposition is allowed to simply stroll right through them and are only hit by the initial shot from the trap. The beauty of traps is that they fire off multiple times, greatly increasing the pressure. Add a KD and you now have the foe crippled, on his butt, and in place for the next salvo from the traps.
Also, on the subject of Protectors Defense, this is not a bug- it is designed to allow a tank to spread his "tankishness" his allies. It does nothing for the user. There actually are very few skills that would allow you to block and use Trapper's Speed. The only ones I can find are rather ineffective without significant investment in there related attribute. I think you will simply be forced to choose between the two stances.
