El/Me... lightning striker


Well- here is an idea that I am going to try to play tonight in pvp. I will update once I actually get into teams to try it out. However, I wanted to post it out, and see if there has been any play with it.
It is a build that I ran in beta, but not with some of the skills I have now. So:

El/Me
Air 15
Energy Storage: 12
Illusion: Max left with points (around 8-9 ish)

Skills:
Lightning Strike
Arcane Echo
Conjure Phantasm
Lightning orb
Blinding flash
Gale
Elemental Attunement {E}
Air attunement

Build idea:
before the onset of hte match, drop on your 2 attunements. These last for 45 and 60 secs respectively. Make sure to put on Elemental first, incase your get stripped, you want to lose Air first....
With those up, you will gain back 80% of the casting cost to your spells. For the main damage spell (Lightning Strike) that means that you will earn back 4 energy for the 5 energy cost spell!

After the target is called, drop on Conjure phantasm, followed with Arcane echo.
Lastly, pop off Lightning strike, and spam on! With the echoed strike, you will get a shot off every 2.5 secs for the next 20 secs.
BUT wait...there's more! Carry the pvp (or colloctor items) that are the fast cast, fast recharge, and you will have roughly a 32% chance for a faster recharge, and a 4% chance for a 2xfaster recharge. Which boils down to 1-3 chance for a faster recharge.

for the odd times that you don't have a lighting strike read to fire off, you can toss out an orb or conjure phantasm (if it has worn off.)

I put blinding flash in there to mess with any warriors or rangers that might target you, and Gale to keep ppl from running or rezzing!

Hi Val, that's pretty close to the air ele build that I run a lot.

Let me know how blinding flash works out for you. I've found that gale by itself is very effective in interrupting, but also in getting those pesky warriors off your back (knockdown for 3 sec). It has exhaustion, so you can't exactly spam it...but you may find that you can drop blinding flash to free up another skill slot (for res sig if you're in arenas).

Conjure phantasm may wind up doing less damage (and no AoE) than something like chain lightning when you spread your attribute points around (even with the recent CL nerf)...but on the plus side Conj. Phant. doesn't cause exhaustion, and I believe it recharges a bit faster, and its just plain annoying to be hit with!

And finally...let me know how arcane echo works out for you. I do at times find myself waiting for a skill to recharge for maybe a couple seconds. For short matches I think that arcane echo would be great to have...but for longer matches I'd prefer to have something like glyph of lesser energy to assist with energy management.

Typically I'll lead off with chain lightning while the enemy group is close together. Even with the recent nerf it still packs quite a punch for 10 energy points. After that I'll follow with lightning orb (for 106 damage) and then use lightning strike to finish off my target. My primary weapon becomes lightning orb with the occasional chain lightning, and lightning strikes to get that last bit of damage in on a weakend opponent, and to fill the time between recharges of orb.

Gale is quite effective at knocking down warriors and interupting heals/rezzes/etc.

It also is definitely a great idea to use both elemental attunement and air attunement...while you maintain these you'll have very little trouble managing your energy. I like the idea of casting elemental attunement first to avoid having it stripped...but I tend to do it second because its duration is 15 seconds less than air attunement...and I'm often too lazy to reapply it mid-fight!

I occasionally bring shatter hex along...not so much lately. It used to be that I would always get backfired or otherwise hexed at the start of every fight, so having shatter hex was crucial. But nowadays, it seems that the mesmers are targeting monks and other mesmers, so I often leave it behind and go straight elementalist.

Resurrection Signet [0/3/*](Signet) Resurrect target party member. That party member is returned to life with 100% Health and 25% Energy. You may only use this Signet ring once per mission.

Aura of Restoration [10/.25/5] (Enchantment Spell) For 60 seconds, you are healed for 152..350 [417]% of the Energy cost each time you cast a Spell.

Air Attunement [10/2/45] (Enchantment Spell) For 36..55 [62] seconds, you are attuned to Air. You gain 1 Energy plus 30% of the base Energy cost of the Skill whenever you use Air Magic.

Blinding Surge [5/1/4] CH3 ELITE (Spell) Target foe is struck for 5..41 [53] lightning damage and Blinded for 3..9 [10] seconds. If that foe is under the effects of an Enchantment, all adjacent foes are also Blinded for 3..9 [10] seconds. This Spell has 25% Armor penetration.

Lightning Strike [5/1/5] (Spell) Strike target foe for 5..41 [53] lightning damage. This Spell has 25% Armor penetration.

Lightning Bolt [5/1/8] CH3 (Spell) Send out a Lightning Bolt that strikes for 5..41 [53] lightning damage if it hits. If Lightning Bolt strikes a moving foe, that foe is struck for 5..29 [37] additional damage. This Spell has 25% Armor penetration.

Arc Lightning [5/1/8] CH2 (Spell) Target foe is struck for 5..41 [53] lightning damage. If that foe is suffering from a Water Magic Hex, one foe near your target is struck for 5..41 [53] lightning damage. Damage from Arc Lightning has 25% Armor penetration.

Shock [5/.75/10] CH1 (Skill) Target touched foe is knocked down and struck for 10..50 [63] lightning damage. This Spell has 25% Armor penetration and causes Exhaustion.

Max Air Magic
Max Energy Storage

The basic concept it to continusly cast. Your defense is Blinding Surge, Shock, and of course running.

Consider replacing Aura of Restoration with:
Glyph of Restoration [5/1/8] CH3 (Glyph) For 15 seconds, your next Spell heals you for 30..90 [110] Health, and you are healed for 150..350 [417]% of the Energy cost of that Spell.

Have you tried Lightning Javelin instead of Lightning Strike?

It's slightly more damage and a potential interrupt with a much faster cooldown.
The downside of course it being line of sight.

Yes, it's the line of sight that is the "killer". With no real defense, using terrain blocking is part of my Ranger survival.
Lightning Bolt is already risky enough, but useful for kiting melee.
