Death Magic Exploration.


Well, I got a fairly decent Death Staff in my last series of adventures. And, well, you know me, I'm a rogue Skill builder. The idea of "Lets make another MM" is almost an insult. Not to mention I think my Ritualist MM is about the best possible build I could come up with despite how basic it is. emoticon

So, any ideas for a non-MM Death Magic user? I was looking at a few skills like Rotting Flesh, Rising Bile, and Discord, wondering if I could go and make them into the cornerstone of a viable Death Magic Build.

Probably use Soul Feast for my self healing ability. Maybe the well that strips enchantments... hmm...

Five skills so far? What about, I dunno, Bitter Chill. And one more. Hmm...

Eh. It's not much now. I'm not all that familiar with Necromancer skills as I would like to be. Basic ideas I've thrown out would leave a build like...

Rotting Flesh. Spreads Disease.
Rising Bile. Hex that deals damage depending on the time it was on the target.
Discord (Elite). Deals damage to target if they are hexed and under a condition.
Soul Feast. Exploit a corpse to heal yourself.
Well of The Profane. Exploit a corpse to strip enchantments from enemies and prevent them from being enchanted.
Bitter Chill. Deals damage, recharges instantly if the target has more health than you.
Vile Miasma. Hex's target. They take damage and suffer degen if they are under a condition.
Ressurection Signet.

Something like that? It could actually be pretty viable in AvA I think. Disease would spread far and wide. And Soul Feast would rob MMs of corpses. Not sure how it would do in PvE or more conventional forms of PvP though.


Any ideas on how to improve that build? Or another good Death Magic build that doesn't use Minions?

I find Putrid Explosion to be a good anti MM spell also. Uses up the corpse and causes damage.

Taste of Pain (5-1/4-10 - If target foe is below 50% Health, you gain 30...126 Health) is decent because of the life stealing.
Tainted Flesh (5-1- - For 20...39 seconds, target ally is immune to disease, and anyone striking that ally in melee becomes Diseased for 3...13 seconds) is a good one to have on anyone taking melee damage.

In SR
Signet of Lost Souls ( -1/4-10 - If target foe is below 50% Health, you gain 10...82 Health and 1...8 Energy) or
Signet of Sorrow ( -1-30 - Target foe takes 15...63 damage. If target foe is near a corpse or has a dead pet, this Skill recharges instantly). I use Signet of Lost Souls a LOT more than Signet of Sorrow. Actually, I do not think I have equipped Sorrow yet.

Death Magic doesn't offer so many possibilities for an "all-death-magic-skill-build-w/o-minions". Discord is very conditional, if you don't use it in a team environment. Getting the hex, condition or enchantment set, takes a lot of time. You have just one source for a condition, Disease from Rotting Flesh. It's a 3 seconds cast and 15 energy, very conditional in PvP. Vile Miasma and Rising Bile aren't any better for your hex supply. Their recharge times are to high, if you need to switch targets quickly.
PeleusDorado already mentioned Tainted Flesh, it's a superior choice.

True enough I suppose. Though Tainted Flesh is an Elite. So I couldn't run it and Discord at the same time. Would make it easier to use Vile Miasma though.

I've been looking at a few of my Death Magic skills, and actually starting to notice some decent skills that would probably need team support. I actually do like Rising Bile for some Mid-Game pressure. At least in PvE. Slap it on a target that's fairly low on your priority list, go beat down on your normal targets. Go and finish him off 30 seconds later when you notice that big number flash up above him.

Also I noticed that Rising Bile gets around the Assassin skill "Shadow Form". Saw an Afflicted Assassin enter the enchantment, then Rising Bile went off 3 seconds later to kill him.

Aura of the Lich Prophecies
Elite Enchantment Spell. For 15...39 seconds, your maximum Health is reduced by half, but you take half damage from all sources. When Aura of the Lich ends, you're healed for 50...202 Health.

Bitter Chill Factions
Spell. Target foe is struck for 15...51 cold damage. If that foe had more Health than you, Bitter Chill recharges instantly.

Earth Prayers
Vital Boon Nightfall
Enchantment Spell. For 20 seconds, you have +40...88 maximum Health. When this Enchantment ends, you are healed for 75...175 Health.

Conviction Nightfall
Stance. For 10...30 seconds, you have +24 armor while enchanted, otherwise you have +1...3 Health regeneration.

could keep pressure to get people under 50% with something like this. Someone else has to finish them off. If you can capitalize on the Signet, should have good E-management. Haven't tested, just kinda throwing in on what Green posted.

I was using Signet of Lost Souls while running Orders in Tombs and it was working rather nicely after having to Rebirth someone. This would allow me to Rebirth someone, cast SoLS to gain energy (on top of whatever just died), cast OoV, cast BR on newly raised party member and then SoLS again for more energy. It is definitely not a killer skill, but the health and energy gain is nice after BR or OoV.
