Long Haul Prot Monk
Eh... Someone asked for my "I don't have Energy Problems" monk build. I generally don't.
Okay, here's how it goes.
Prot: 12 + Your choice of Runes/Hat.
Divine Favor: 12 + Ditto.
Inspiration Magic: 3
I usually use Armor Plus Inscriptions on Armor. Sacred +10 against Elemental damage, Or Judge's +10 against Physical Damage are usually what I take.
For weapons I usually use a Prot Staff. Wands/Focus are for Chumps. Swiftness Inscription (Increases casting speed of the item's Attribute), an Enchanting Wrapping, and a Plus Energy staff head.
Skills are:
Life Sheath: Elite Enchantment
Guardian
Reversal of Fortune
Aegis
Mend Conditions
Inspired Hex
Drain Enchantment
Ressurection Skill of Choice (Or, if people tell me No, I usually pack Pacifism to neutralize those assassins or warriors that chase after me)
It's not all that fancy. Start off casting Aegis. Life Sheath and Reversal are probably going to be your go to spells. Usse Inspired Hex and Drain Enchantment for energy. Drain Enchantment is probably going to be your Main Energy Management skill. It's 100% likely that in any given battle the enemy will have Enchantments to drain. It is not guaranteed that there will be hexes to remove. And if there are, you only get +3 energy from it every 20 seconds at best.
If necessary you could go 11 Prot, 10 Divine, 10 Inspiration for more mileage on the energy gain. But considering other than Drain Enchantment and Aegis my skills are all 5 energy I don't need that much Energy Gain.
I've managed to be the solo monk on RA teams, and be healing all throught he battle in 20 minute battles. So it is battle tested.
It lacks Prot Spirit which people tell me is Needed for PvP. You could fit it in there... but at 10 energy it might start putting a Time Limit on how long you can maintain your monking. Some have suggested I put in Extinguish, again eating away at my ability to keep going. As is the energy gain is enough that I can go pretty much forever I think, if I didn't make mistakes.
Eh, suggestiosn on the build? Anyone think it's even halfway viable?
Last year I was running this build for the GvG matches I got to make it to in September, worked real well there. Then again, lots of stuff has changed in the metagame since then.
Still I think the premise of "Long Haul" characters like that for monks, ones that can keep going forever are better than the "I can heal for 4 minutes but then I'm outta energy" ideas.
Also even if you get some serious DP going you can still use this build with no special considerations.

Re: Long Haul Prot Monk
I don't get it.
At just 3 inspiration, Drain Enchantment will still cost you 2 energy, and Inspired Hex will net you zero.
Even at 10 inspiration their energy gain is still only +5 and +3 respectively, and the cooldowns seem painfully long.
Maybe it's you're optimal timimg of spells or something, because I know I'd eventually be running into energy issues with this build.

Re: Long Haul Prot Monk
Hmm, must have 'reworked' the skills since the last time I played it. Damned updates. It used to net me 2 and 5 respectively. Oh well.
I never needed them all that much. Part of it, as you say, is just using the skills wisely. The only time I've been at zero energy was facing all those damned Ether Phantom/Malaise, etc energy degend builds that left me with 0 and -4 degen most times.
In most cases Life Sheath and Guardian are the go to spells. I only really use RoF when someone is targeted by eles or the like. Good Anti-Attacker build, it can handle spell caster damage. Weak against Degen. If you got a good healer backing up in an 8 on 8 situation together you should be able to handle most things that come your way.
