Mesmer/Monk


Fast Casting: 10 (9+1)
Illusion Magic: 12 (10+2)
Inspiration Magic: 9 (8+1)
Domination Magic: 10 (9+1)

- Migraine [Elite] (Illusion Magic)
For 17 seconds, target foe suffers Health degeneration of 3 and takes 100% longer to cast Spells.
Energy:10 Cast:1.36 Recharge:15

- Conjure Phantasm (Illusion Magic)
For 12 seconds, target foe experiences Health degeneration of 5.
Energy:10 Cast:0.68 Recharge:5

- Overload (Domination Magic)
Target foe takes 15 damage. if that foe was casting a spell, you deal +35 damage.
Energy:5 Cast:0.17 Recharge:3

- Wastrel's Demise (Domination Magic)
Target foe takes 22 damage. If that foe is not casting a Spell, that foe takes an additional 6 damage for each equipped Spell.
Energy:5 Cast:0.17 Recharge:8

- Power Spike (Domination Magic)
If target foe is casting a Spell, the Spell is interrupted and the foe takes 75 damage.
Energy:10 Cast:0.17 Recharge:12

- Power Drain (Inspiration Magic)
If target foe is casting a Spell, the Spell is interrupted and you gain 19 Energy.
Energy:5 Cast:0.17 Recharge:25

- Inspired Hex (Inspiration Magic)
Remove a Hex from target ally and gain 8 Energy. For 20 seconds, Inspired Hex is replaced with the Hex that was removed.
Energy:5 Cast:0.68 Recharge:0

- Drain Enchantment (Inspiration Magic)
Remove an Enchantment from target foe. If an Enchantment is removed, you gain 14 Energy.
Energy:10 Cast:0.68 Recharge:30


The basic goal is to be able to shutdown a single target and spread degen throughout the oppsing team as well. It also allows for some pressure through the anticaster damage it provides. I have no idea how efective it would be though, as it's entirely untested.

hmmm... not really sure. It's got a little bit of everything.
Would defenitely need to be run by someone with good interrupting skills, as there's essentially 4 timing skills there.

Truthfully though, I'm not really crazy about Overload and Wastrel's Demise. Even with the conditional damage, they still seem rather weak.

You could throw in Backfire (for Overload) to stop them from casting and then hit them with Wastrel's Demise.

With this build, you actually want them casting.

Every time they cast, you have the opportunity to do damage or gain energy. The opportunity is increased by Migraine.

Duh, I completely forgot about migraine in there. Heck, I might even be able to interrupt them with migraine running. emoticon
I'm guessing Conjure Phantasm will be used as a cover hex?

Although I still don't think wastrels demise is worth it.

What about sticking Power Leak in there. That way you've an interrupt and e-denial all in one.
Either that, or maybe another cheaper cover hex for migraine.

Hmm, cheaper cover hex... How about... oh gods, what's that name. Faction's skill. 5 energy, 1 casting time, 5 second recharge. Deals X damage if the target is attacking and they suffer Y degen. Probably 3 at what you have.

Remorse or something? Eh... I'll probably remember it when I'm away from the computer. But that'll give you the same cover hexage, but 5 energy cheaper. 2 less degen but a chance for something like 50 damage in case the monks dare to Staff someone. *shrug*

The skill you are thinking of is Images of Remorse.

It's not a bad idea, and one that I had considered. I prefer Phantasm over Remorse though, because of it's higher degen ability.

Regarding Wastrel's Demise, consider you're "average" monk's bar. It will have a minimum of 6 spells, and very likely 8. That's a likely 36 additional damage (if 6) on top of the 22, for 5 energy, every 8 seconds. It's not spectacular, but it's nothing to blow off either. It's cheap, and combined with Phantasm, applies a fair bit of pressure.

No, it's not bad at all with the full damage.
It's just that monks spam a lot of spells and there's a good chance that even with good timing that he'll cast just as you do. Then all you'll have is wand-style damage for 5 energy.

But hey, we won't know for sure until we try it.

It's read and react. Depending on the situation, and based on their casting rythm, you can tell if a character is going to cast or not. That's how interupting well works- know they are casting before they do. You just have to treat Demise as a non-interupt. If they are going to be casting, you use Overload instead. Still, I agree the skills not perfect for the build.

What I like about it is that it is cheap and recharges quickly.

That may be why I stink as an interrupter. The only way I can do it is if I have complete focus on the target with my finger on the trigger. Usually ignoring everything else around me. Including the warrior pounding on my head! emoticon
