Aion

Came across this write up on Aion:
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/253/feature/2212

While I was at PAX, I was standing next to a guy that was doing an interview with one of the Aion Dev Team members. I listened in and watched as the Dev gave him a tour around the world of Aion. I don't know if the guy who wrote this article is the same guy but the this write up sounds a lot like the stuff they were talking about. Then again, they most likely did a lot of interviews over the weekend. emoticon

"First Aion Beta Test Event Begins June 5

Friday, May 29, 2009 —
It's almost time to spread your wings and take flight in Aion™!

Soon, NCsoft will formally invite select players and members of the press to play in the first Aion beta event. Players will take their first fledgling steps in a world of unparalleled splendor and intrigue. Choosing between two powerful races and among eight character classes and thousands upon thousands of avatar customization options, players will embark on a journey where they must choose sides in a celestial civil war that threatens to destroy the once-peaceful world of Atreia.

The first Aion beta event, which begins after E3 2009, opens June 5, 2009 and runs through June 7, 2009. In this first event, beta testers will play Aion as the Elyos, who occupy the bottom half of Atreia, known as Elysea. Shortly afterward, more players will be invited to join in these beta events, with each event giving players a different taste of the game."

I'm excited to see this for a couple of reasons. I signed up for the beta at PAX so I'm hoping to get a beta key this week. And I'm still hopeful that once NCsoft gets past all of their Aion promotions they will turn their attention to GW2. emoticon

Got my beta invite today! emoticon

They are doing beta weekends like GW did. I know the first one is invitation only but I hear in the near future they will be opening it up to more people.

Re: Aion

Well, after a less than impressive start, it did start to grow on me. I didn't get to play near as much as I wanted to but I did manage to get to level 10 and get my wings. Flying is cool and I'm looking forward to aerial PvP!

It is a very nice looking game and I was able to run with all settings on high and still pull 60-100 fps. For the most part the first 10 levels are the "starting area" where you are learning to play the game more than really getting into the game. I think that is why I didn't like it so much at first.

I liked the way WH got you into PvP right from the start. Aion doesn't do that but I keep hearing that once you get past level 10 and can get into the PvP story line, the game really shines. So basically I didn't get enough time to really form an opinion. And most likely the next beta weekend will not help much. This last weekend, they only allowed us to play one of the two races (so no one to PvP against).

The next one only the other race will be playable and they are going to cap the weekend at level 10. So I'm going to have to wait until they open it up a bit to really see how it plays.

I know all of the fan sites are giving away beta keys and if anyone really wants to try out the beta weekends, I think it is gamestop that is selling pre-orders for $5 or $10 that will get you in to all of the betas. Would be nice to have someone to play with. emoticon Hope to have more info after the next one on the 17th.

I'm going to be it's late. emoticon
