A warning about NCsoft games and game peripherals
I wanted to let you guys know about a big problem I am having with Aion and I guess could be a problem with GW and GW2 down the road.
I bought a Logitech G-13 gaming keyboard a few weeks ago and although it works with GW and all my other games it absolutely DOES NOT work with Aion. Apparently the GameGuard anti-cheat program which is witten into Aion does not allow the G-13's HID driver to function while the game is on. I can't do a windows workaround because the although G-13 emulates a keyboard, it actually isn't one (think of it as a gamepad with lots of buttons rather than a keyboard) and the disabling of the driver makes it stop functioning. Furthermore, I can't just write up a profile for the G-13 because it requires that profiles be linked to an .exe file, which Aion doesn't have, due to only launching through the NC launcher. I assume that the N-52 does not have this problem as it pretty much is a keyboard when plugged in.
This is beyond frustrating. I never would have bought the G-13 had I known that game security measures would actively disable it.
Other than this one problem, the G-13 has been pretty good... The extra keys are great. They are programmable on the fly as macros so it is pretty easy to set up. The biggest waste of money in it is the LCD screen, because who is actually going to be looking at their controller while playing a game?
I am going through forums to try and solve this but I don't have much hope at this time. There has been a lot written about this problem already and so far no solutions that I have found.
What a pain after doing the multiple downloads and patches I had to do to get Aion running...

Re: A warning about NCsoft games and game peripherals
Also this seems to be a problem with Steam games, due to the method of launching games through the program, rather through an .exe.
I have found what looks to be a fix for vista. Apparently you can disable UAC to make it work. I'm running XP and as far as I know there is no UAC. I have more than one user account on this PC and my account is the administrator one so there should be open access for the G-13.
If anyone has an idea how to fix it, I would love to hear it...

Re: A warning about NCsoft games and game peripherals
I know Gard just picked one up and his brother uses one. They may have some tips when they see this. To my knowledge they haven't any problems running it with Aion. My Nostromo works fine.

I returned mine for those exact reasons. My brother swears by his, but I preffer the Nostromo.

Re: A warning about NCsoft games and game peripherals
Can he actually use it in Aion? If there is some workaround to get it functional I would love to know...

He is running Windows 7, and after reading some posts the g13 will at least function with windows 7, but the macro keys still wont work cause Game Gaurd still blocks them

A guy in that thread says you can PM him and he can get it to work. But who knows his intentions, and it may be something you have to fiddle with everytime GG updates.

Re: A warning about NCsoft games and game peripherals
All I care about is keymapping, so if someone publicly posts a workaround that people give feedback for I would be much happier than pm'ing some random guy for his secret instructions.
How did your brother get keymapping to work? Run it without the Logitech drivers installed?

Damn, this really ticks me off. I have bad feelings about this problem also affecting GW2.
