Farming with a monk?
Jl's post made me remember that I have heard several people talk about a 55monk build that they use for farming. I am assuming that the 55 is HP? and maybe they are using all sup runes? I can't figure out how on earth this can happen. Anyone know where to point me for this info?
(I didn't want to hijack JL's post, so I put it here)

Re: Farming with a monk?
I thought we had a post about the 55 hp monk in here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. The search function at guildwars guru has been disabled too...so no luck there.
I haven't done this myself, but it is my understanding that the basics of the 55 hp monk are:
- You get your life down to 55hp by using all superior runes, and I believe there is an item in the UW that you can carry around that lowers HP further.
- The point of this is that you will be maintaining enchantments that limit the damage taken to a fraction of your total life, and you'll have mending on so that even if you take lots of big hits, you are minimizing the damage they do and healing it instantly making yourself "invincible" unless enchantments are removed.
- The point of this is to be able to solo-farm in the Underworld.
- All of this takes WAY more patience and investment than I'm into, so I'll defer to Mimi (if he still reads this) or Val or somebody else that may have done this before.
There are other great spots for farming with monks that don't require the runes and the "invinci-build"...some of my favorites are the minotaurs in the Elona mission and the Tengu in Three-Lakes. Of course, you won't get any ecto there!
EDIT: I found the link I was looking for in the Graveyard: Farming Monk Post

Re: Farming with a monk?
exactly, the point is to get your health down to 55 hit points, and then run the enchantments that limit the damge taken as a % of your total points. (10% is 5 dmg). Then, you have life regen going, which will give you more hit points per second, than the enemy can damage you. However, it is very costly, (at least when I speced out) as sup. runes were going for big gold. I have not played in a while, so I am not sure of the current prices. If you decide to run this build, go with the cheapest tat set you can buy, as armor will do you no good. If I can answer any more questions, please let me know!

Re: Farming with a monk?
Thanks for the info! I've been hearing about this 55 monk thing as well since I've returned to the game. I've been wondering what the build was. Most searches don't like it when you put "55" as a search term, so that makes it hard to look for.

Re: Farming with a monk?
Hey! I just thought of something! Since I play a necro as my main, I was wondering if you could combine that build with the necro elite spell "Aura of the Lich" to eliminate some of the requirements to get to 55 HP. With that spell, all you would need to do is get your HP to 110, and you should be good to go. The only hassle would be that you have to make sure AotL is always active as well as your other enchantments.

Re: Farming with a monk?
I know that a former guildie ran a 55 necro. He said it was much better than the monk version. Basically, if you want to run necro, I would still go with the sup runes, and the -hp item to get down to 55. That way, you can run SS as you elite. (If I remeber correctly, Aura of the Lich is an elite) In my opinion, I would not want to burn the Elite slot for a skill when items can achieve the same effect. Also, necro runes should be much cheaper as few people will play a 55 necro.
Remember with the runes, the penalties stack, but the effects don't. So, you can buy 1 sup curse rune, and load all other armor peices with sup. SR and be just fine! I can not image that sup. SR is selling for a lot of cash!

Re: Farming with a monk?
Very interesting! I've been running a N/Mo as my main all this time. Perfect! This definately sounds like something to try! Thanks!
Good point on SS. I would like to take that with me, if I could. I need to be able to do some at least some kind of damage with that build, and SS would be perfect if I'm just going to be tanking a bunch of mobs.

Re: Farming with a monk?
It is quickly becoming my favorite spell for the main fact that the AoE does not cause the mobs to run away. They will (at least when I played last) still stand there are kill each other off at an alarming rate.

Re: Farming with a monk?
That sounds like a pretty fun build...I hope they hurry up and implement the new character slots (for $10 this summer some time) so that I can start a necro and try it out!

Re: Farming with a monk?
Oh yeah. I remember liking SS when I played my necro before. It was really funny when you got into a random PvP arena and saw a bunch of warriors beating up a little monk. Throw some effects on them like weakness or blind and then use SS. It was so much fun watching them blow themselves up without a clue as to what was going on.
I love those kinds of spells... spells that cause the enemy to kill themselves. It makes for good entertainment. Just a few days ago, I put a major whammy on a warrior and he had no idea the spells I put on him. I put on things like SS, Empathy, Price of Failure, and Enfeeble. He not only went straight for the monk to smack her down, he used some sort of haste-like skill (Berserker Stance perhaps?)... because he was swinging MUCH faster than normal. He dug his own grave at an alarming rate. I don't know when I've seen the HP bar go down so fast! I thought I would roll out of my chair in laughter!
