It's been a While.

Title says it. I just made a new assassin primary character. I haven't had an assassin primary since...

Well, it's been a while. How long? Last time I was an assassin Shroud of Distress Sucked. Hard.

Today when I got it I noticed it changed from...

15 Energy Enchantment spell that lasts 30 seconds and gives me X% chance to block (Usually something like 20% that early in the game).

To...

10 Energy Enchantment Spell that lasts X seconds (14 with what I have now I believe) that gives you a 75% chance to block.

Imagine my surprise.

So I wondered what other things got changed and souped up.

Basically I've lost most of my reference. As lately I've been using Assassins just as secondaries (Deadly arts for warrior, or Shadow arts for Mesmers and Monks). I noticed that Death Blossom seems to be better than I remember. Blades of Steel seems weaker. Sharpen Blades is kinda... different. Not sure if it is better or weaker now.

Well, I know the Boss Man at least is our Resident Assassination Expert, perhaps he can give me some ideas on how I should look at these new skill changes, build my combos and my defensive skills, etc, etc, etc.

Well Galdor... my style is to go and spread the Pain. I'm still on Shing Jea Island, but here is my current set up.

Shadow's Refuge (To be replaced by Feigned Neutrality when I get to Elona)
Return (Shadowstep to ally and cripple nearby foes. I think I got the name wrong. Again I'll probably replace it with Death's Retreat when I get to Elona)
Jagged Strike (Lead and bleed)
Wild Strike( Off and Stance Cancel)
Death Blossom (Dual Area of Effect damage)
Shoud of Distress (46 seconds as I have it, of 75% blocking if I'm below 50%)
Caltrops (AoE Crippling)
Ressurection Signet

Idea is I go with the combo, switch to a new target, combo, switch back, combo. AoE damage stacks and I keep them all bleedin'.

Shroud myself when I get Targetted, which lets me hang in there even longer for AoE and Bleedingness. Caltrops to cripple the enemies and keep them all in a nice bunch (Or if I get a runner). Use my Shadowstep to get out of there if Shroud is about to drop, or if 75% blocking isn't working.

My combo is low on energy, all 5 energy skills, and quick recharge, with the longest recharge being 4 seconds.

I'll probably do something massively different when I get to the mainland and Elona.

How do you quickly target and then switch back to the target? Is it just by using the mouse? I have had trouble getting right target back.

Using Tab and C for Next and "Closest" enemy.

Between the two of them it's easy to keep switching between two targets. Using "C" resets the targetting cycle so rather than something across the map, the next time you use Tab it'll be the next closest enemy.

Re: It's been a While.

Honestly, I haven't really played my Sin in PvE in any kind of a serious way in quite a while.

I always went with a fairly basic setup though. Because I prefer to be on the offense, I try to stick to skills that have the fastes recharges, even if they aren't as heavily damaging. It just feels good to be able to whack away in a combo almost non-stop.

In PvP, it's another story entirely. I have a particular PvP build that I use which can pretty much kill anythign in a spike, even through an Infuse, if it's not perfectly timed.

The PvP build I've been using is a Sin/War... Just use the skill in this order: Expose Defenses, Flurry, Black Lotus Strike, Horns of The Ox, Falling Spider, Twisting Fangs, Flourish, and Feigned Neutrality.

Note that there is no Res. I originally ran this build w/o Feigned Neutrality, but I found it was more effective with something of a self-heal, even if it did mean being the last one alive at times. I've gotten myself 2 Glad points with this build, which is really a testament to good luck finding teams than any particular skill on my part. I've also had many "one and done" runs with this build. Being purely offensive, it's very, very effective at killing. Staying alive, on the other hand... not so much. Still, it's a boatload of fun to play. You just have to be patient when it comes to getting on teams that aren't particularly well suited to support the character.
