Re: October 2008

thx for the nightfall help offer guys.

my new comp is supposedly gonna ship 2nite.
yea. emoticon

crossing fingers on hoping it doesn't arrive DOA. emoticon

that's always a big pain waiting for week or 2 or 3 etc for returning parts and waiting for replacements. emoticon

i want to finish guildwars/nightfall after i get installed on new comp cuz the slow framerate kinda makes me dizzy when playing.
hopefully it is my graphics card and not my monitor that is the problem on the redraw.

i am currently using a year old 22 inch lcd.
it operates in the resolution that i use at 60 hz (screen refreshes 60 times a second - they say anything over 35 [fps] and the human eye can't tell the difference) so that should be okay. i am pretty sure it is a graphics card thingy cuz i only notice it in graphics intensive games not regular use or older games where i get better fps.

now i just need to save up emoticon for a soundcard and 5.1 surround speakers. i have 5.1 now but they are very old and low quality. i already have my new speakers picked out from reading reviews. now i just gotta find a high customer satisfaction rating for a good soundcard and i don't need the top of the line. just a good 5.1 with high user satisfaction experience rating.

but i did order good 5.1 headphones though i prefer to play without headphones so i can hear if someone comes to the door (i don't have a doorbell - lol - and my computer room is in opposite end of house).

thx again,
sam

ps. Peleus, i hope u play guildwars with teamspeak or i am gonna hafta come over and ruff u up. emoticon
am pretty sure green does - in fact green, u r the one paying for it aren't u?
thx if u are. to me teamspeak adds so much to the gaming experience.

Something to consider. Flicker.
You room lights flicker @60 cycles because that is the AC cycle rate. If you can go to 70 on your monitor, I suggest that you do. I have found that when my monitor was a 60 I got "wavering" on my screen.

I thought TS was a requirement for starting a party with the Guild? emoticon I enjoy the use of TS while in a party. I do like my music running in the background, but that does not help in coordinating pulls and retreats.

Which character are you moving through to the end of Nightfall? And do you remember where you stopped?

The refresh rate is the reason why I have hung on to my old CRT monitor for so long. Mine refreshes at 85 Hz at the highest resolutions.

Some people can see it, some can't. If you are one of those people who can see it, lower refreshing monitors are a real pain in the eyes. I have a hard time focusing for a long time at anything less than 70.

Re: October 2008

ya green, i understand the ac frequency thingy. my monitor is capped at 60 hz on the resolution i like to play at. can't afford a new monitor now.

i have about 3 characters stopped about 1/2 to 2/3 way thru nightfall. can't remember the city names. 1 is stopped about right after the first worm ride mission or shortly thereafter. i guess the missions just got too hard for me or something and i didn't understand all the worm skills.

have new comp setup but don't have guildwars or my games transferred yet though.

been busy at work so will be another week (give or take) till i do a fresh install of my games (guild wars, coh = company of heroes) to this new sweet comp! emoticon

specs:
e8500, ati 4870 1 gig.
no sound card yet though. on-board sound is not as good as my other comp onboards though emoticon . doesn't get loud at all. barely normal. oh well. couple of months i should have me a decent soundcard (1 word?) [sound card - hummm]. lol.

later,
sam
