posticon place of rotting eternally!o and question (disk 3 error help: solved)

Hi all, new to the board and I love these old gold box games. Anyhow, I have the 'ol "insert disk #3" issue when I try to start up PoR during character creation. I've tried to alter the pool.cfg file to read

c:/POOLRAD/
c:/POOLRAD/SAVE

This isn't working though. Once I get it up and running, then I'll prolly have to bug yall about how to get Moslo to work :/

Thanks for any help at all!

-Utmost

place of rotting eternally!o and Welcome to the forums Utmost! Good to have you on board. As for getting past the "insert disc 3 error", I found that if you mount the drive as C:/ instead of C:/POOLRAD you can get by the error message. You will need to use the DOSbox emulator. I suggest also using a front end for DOSbox. I am currently using D-Fend Reloaded. The current D-Fend Reloaded version comes with DOSbox so it installs both programs at once so you don't need to do 2 separate installs. You can check out more info on both in the emulator section of these forums. You can set the games speed to slow it down or speed it up any way you like. I usually keep it at 3000 cycles. I'll post some screenshots of my current D-Fend Reloaded/DOSbox setup of Pool of Radiance to give you a visual picture.

pic 1 - set up D-Fend Reloaded to access Pool of Radiance's .exe file
Image

pic 2 - mount the drive to C:/ rather than mounting C:/POOLRAD (this will eliminate the "insert disc 3" error)
Image

pic 3 - set the CPU cycles to 3000 or if you want it slower just lower the number of cycles.
Image

pic 4 - you can set the game to appear in a window rather than in fullscreen mode if you'd like to.

Alright, thx for the walkthrough! I'm trying to figureout exatcly how to unzip the game files into the right place, but I'll keep sorking on it. D-Fend looks a bit more user friendly then a blank DOS window lol.

I always unzip the folder directly onto the C drive. The path to PoR on my machine is....

C:/POOLRAD

GAh I got it all set correctly and it still gives the disk 3 thing at char creation. Lemme write down exact paths here

In D-Fend:

Program File:

C:\POOLRAD\POOLRAD\START.EXE

Folder for mounting:

C:\

gonna google some more

Seems you have 1 folder too many. There should only be 1 folder called POOLRAD. Try eliminating the xtra folder so that the program is located in 1 folder called POOLRAD which is located on the C drive. After eliminating the xtra folder on your C drive then go into D-Fend Reloaded and have the .exe file access set to..

C:/POOLRAD/START.EXE

also you mentioned in your first post that you changed something in the Pool config file. maybe that might have something to do with it. I looked into what my POOL.CFG file contains and this is the way my POOL.CFG file looks like...

E
P
C:\POOLRAD\
C:\POOLRAD\
