John and Ozzy
Who else thinks, like I do, that musically-speaking John would have been a perfect successor for Randy Rhoads (RIP) in Ozzy Osbourne's band?
Of course, we would perhaps never have seen John in Lizzy or Whitesnake, but it does make me wonder what might have been if Ozzy hadn't been too  at the time John was invited for audition.

Re: John and Ozzy
Yes, he would have made a great replacement but I can't be too sorry as then we wouldn't have had 'Still Of The Night'!
Think it might also have done John's head in working with Ozzy at that time!

Re: John and Ozzy
Ozzy knew how to pick a guitarist despite his character faults ;) so the fact that John S was invited to audition to take Randy's place says enough for me.
Still Carol I agree he was better off not getting involved with Ozzy's drunken antics.

Re: John and Ozzy
Have been involved in quite a few drunken antics with John but I reckon Ozzy took things that step further!

Re: John and Ozzy
I always find amusing how rumours over John and Ozzy develop through the public. The actual fact is (and trust me on this) the audition never even took place, Ozzy and Sharon failed to show because the were in polite terms (worse for wear). John was waiting around for hours before being told by Ozzys manager that Ozzy was struck ill with a virus. It left John being told that Ozzy would be in touch to re arrange. This never happened. Later in an interview with Ozzy he said (and i quote) "The worst decision I ever made was letting John Sykes slip though my fingers".
That says it all, I will try and find the interview online and post it here.
Hope this helps.

"The audition never took place"
That contradicts this interview from Kerrang issue 64 in 1984...
"John Sykes' next job was nearly with Ozzy but, as fate would have it, this wasn't to be… "I went over to Ireland to do a single with Phil Lynott after I'd split with the Tygers, and Phil asked me to join Thin Lizzy. Well, three days before I left for Ireland, Ozzy called and said: 'come down for an audition'. He said he'd meet me at six o'clock and he didn't turn up till about nine. He fell in the door rat-arsed which is Ozzy, I mean I had to smile. He stumbled down the stairs and told Magnum, who were the backing band for the audition, to play 'Mr Crowley'. There was no gear waiting for me at all." Much effing and blinding ensued, more blinding than effing in Ozzy's case. "He seemed to think I should have brought me gear down, and I thought the least they could have done would have been to get the gear after all the ****in' about that had gone on in the past. I ended up going through an H/H 2x12 amp and it sounded pretty horrendous. I was playing with a band that didn't know any of his songs, and I'm trying to coach them, and Ozzy's standing there singing all out of tune…he was well out of it, it was quite funny. He said: 'I can't tell whether he's any good. We'll have to take him to America'. Then he said: 'When you've finished your single with Phil, give us a ring and we'll fly you over'. After that, and with Phil asking me to join Lizzy, I thought NO WAY!"
