Doug Aldrich
I know Doug doesn't have that many fans on this forum unfortunately as i think he is a great player, but for those of you who are interested and don't already know... He's going to be wielding the axe on Dio's forthcoming UK tour. Standing in for the guy who's name escapes me at the moment who's had to pull out (i think for family reasons). So just incase anybody here doesn't think that Doug is a Syke's wannabe (which seems to be the general consensus) then get to do see Dio in october, its gonna be a kick ass show. He's playing the Holy Diver album start to finish then coming on after an interval and doing a greatest hits set. Should be really really good!!!
Speak to y'all soon,
Scott

Re: Doug Aldrich
Hi Scott
Where did you get this news from?
It is brilliant news if true. It's not the case that I am no fan of Doug's, and I know the same goes for Carol (and she'd say so if she wasn't away on holiday! ). I love his playing in Dio, especially on Killing the Dragon and Live in New York City, and wherever else, but I can't accept him as anything other than a Sykes-lite in Whitesnake.
We are going to see Dio in Newcastle very soon. Now I simply can't wait!!
Bring it on!
Simon

Re: Doug Aldrich
Unfortunately i can't say where i got the news from, but lets just say a VERY close source to Doug, and i have actually spoken to him myself about it. It is 100% true he will definately be on the tour! I forgot to mention you and Carol actually i know that you two are fans of Doug, i didn't mean to insinuate that you didn't like him, i just no that a lot of people tend not to like him on here, wich is a shame as he is an awesome player!
Speak soon,
Scott

Re: Doug Aldrich
Hi folks,
We're back!
This is great news Scott! My clan and I are off to see Dio in a few weeks too. I was hoping when I got the tickets that it would be Doug Aldrich and was disappointed that it wasn't going to be him!
Like Simon, I love listening to Doug, especially with Dio rather than WS (and he's not too bad to look at either!!)As I have said lots of times on the forum, nobody else, not even the mega talented Doug, can deliver the WS goods quite like JS!
Also can't wait for the Dio gig now,Simon!
Carol

Re: Doug Aldrich
Well, it's a while since I posted on this thread but have given Doug more than a few mentions elsewhere!  I have listened to loads more of Doug's music since last summer and seen him perform live with Dio. This guy is absolutely fantastic! Looks aside,(which are an added attraction, no doubt about it! :lick: :love , he is one hell of a guitarist!
Despite how I feel about JS being the only one to do justice to some of the Whitesnake songs,it aint gonna happen. Doug's the closest we'll get to JS.Still prefer him with Dio but as he's decided to stick with DC, I will be there to see him in Newcastle.
In the meantime, will be lovin' that Doug action by listening to Bad Moon Rising.Get your hands on some BMR, especially 'Blood'. It's phenomenal!
I have been listening to some of Doug's earlier stuff from '87 with Lion. As in BMR, it's the fantastic Kal Swan on vocals and this has a sort of Scorpions/Whitesnake vibe to it.
Burning Rain material is great too- there's more of a Bon Jovi/INXS thing going on. I much prefer him with Kal Swan to Keith St.John, but both are great vocalists.
There's so much more to Doug than just being a Sykes-lite!
Carol
