"On Lead Guitar...": praise and/or criticise other guitarists here
This might be fun!
For instance, the current Whitesnake guitarists. Doug Aldrich I have no problem with. He is a killer guitar-player, pulls some great shapes, a perfect fit for Whitesnake and successor to Sykesy.
However, Reb Beach - I can't understand what he's doing in the band. Far too much finger-tapping for my liking. And he doesn't play a Les Paul - a major sin in my book!

Re: "On Lead Guitar...": praise and/or ***** about other guitarists here
Hi Simon,
I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on Doug!I've seen Whitesnake and its different line-ups many times and have never been disappointed. But when I saw Whitesnake last year some numbers just sounded flat;I think it's because, although he is a fine player,Doug just didn't play with the same passion which is something John always does.
Whitesnake have never been the same since losing JS - not sure DC ever could find a suitable successor.Doug's saving grace with us ladies is that at least he is a good looker(You might have noticed my passion for tall blonds!!)
As far as Reb Beach goes,I hardly noticed him so can't really comment. Maybe that in itself says it all?!

Hi Carol,
I agree with you on most things except the above, but that's cool. I've only seen WS the once (last October, the second show in Newcastle) and I did go with mixed feelings, i.e. "if only it could be JS on guitar"!! But I think Doug, although he is no match for John, and a Sykes-lite, if you like, played pretty well. You are right that there was only one guitarist worth watching on the stage that night! What on earth was DC thinking employing someone who used to play in Winger? :what?:
The acid test for Doug would be writing some new WS songs that stand up to '1987' quality. And I don't think it's gonna happen.
I always thought that DC should have poached Luke Morley from Thunder. Great player and songwriter.
How did you rate Vandenberg? I resent the way he stole JS's thunder touring the '1987' album etc. But IMHO he did great on 'Restless Heart' - for what it was ;) .

Re: "On Lead Guitar...": praise and/or ***** about other guitarists here
Hi Simon,
I was at the second show WS show in Newcastle too! It was fun and I wonder who will replace Marco who was terrific as ever (probably why I didn't notice Reb Beach!!)
Yes, Luke Morley is great. Did you see Thunder last November at Newcastle Arena? Frampton played too and the headliners were Deep Purple. Great gig! Thunder also played last month at the City Hall-another great show.
Anyway, we are supposed to be talking lead guitarists. I am not a fan of Vandenberg at all. I can't stand the way he plays John's songs. How I regret that we never got to see JS and DC perform all of the great numbers they co-wrote for 1987! However, I do agree that he ws OK on the 'Restless Heart'album but I think I like it more for Coverdale's vocals rather than the guitar stuff.

Re: "On Lead Guitar...": praise and/or ***** about other guitarists here
I found this on Reb Beach's website. Says it all about his unsuitability for Whitesnake really:
"I heard a fast Whitesnake tune once that I really wanted to do but I forget the name."
 :what?:

Vivian Campbell - another one who made a killing trading off Sykes's efforts on 1987. He's putting out a blues CD - I kid you not  ...

I think Reb's purpose on the Whitesnake tour is the re-create Steve Vai's parts (since both of them use the trem extensively)
