Dreadlocking secrets...
" QUOTE " Helraiser81 wrote:
my 10 secrets to dreadlocking: :eyes:
1.) TIME- its your most trusted ally.... dreadlocks form in time... its not instant. thos who wants an instant dreadlocks, u better think twice about it.
2.) PATIENCE - If you dont have this, better cut your hair... your locks will have thos frizzies.. it will always have thos loose hairs. i know dreadheads who have locks more than 10 years and thos loose hairs are still there. its common for a year or two to have a birdnest on top of your head so bear with it if u wanna have locks.
3.) DEDICATION AND LOVE - Love and accept your locks for who they are.... there are no same 2 locks... everyones locks have their own character so love them as they are.
4.) LEAVE THEM ALONE - If you mess with them too much, the result would be devastating. u may loose locks due to breackage or u may destroy thos knots that started to mat up. if u care too much on your looks, put them undera tam for the first 2 yrs. after that, ur all set. yes u can palmroll or rootrub but it may cause breakage on the roots of your locks... watever u do, dont rebackcomb. u will destroy thos knots that have started to lock up...
5.) WASH - wash them as regularly as possible... 2x a week is good for starters. that would keep them clean thus allowing them to knot up properly..... wash them with shampoo that has no residue, SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate), NO CONDITIONERS....
6.) RINSE, RINSE, RINSE... - The most important thing. rinse them well to remove the buildups left in your locks. it will also ensure you that u dont have any molds and mildews growing inside your locks... it will leave them clean and fresh. :eyes:
7.) DRY, DRY, DRY - It is the most important after washing... dry them well so that it wont grow molds and mildews..... molds and mildews causes them to stink....
8.) A WOOL OR HEMP TAM, WRAP, BONNET, ETC..... - It helps them in the early stages as well as in the later stages of locking. it also helps you to quit holding/touching your locks....
9.) THE MOST IMPORTANT.... NO WAX - It doesnt help in locking... all it does is glue the hair in place. the hair needs to move so that it can find its place on the lock. waxing them constricts that movement... GLUED HAIR ARE NOT DREADLOCKS. wax also promotes bacterial and fungi growth in your locks... u dont want thos inside your locks, trust me. wax also attracts dirt that are hard to remove.... hardened wax in your locks are so hard to remove. wax leaves behind residues that thos companies that sell dreadstuff did not mention.
10.) NO BANDS - Yes, no bands. noobs are often afraid of unravelling but unravelling is normal... thats the phenomena of dreadlocking. after they unravel, they knot up again and form locks. bands constricts them from moving. as ive said, dreadlocks form from constant movement of the hair, unraveling and tightening. LEAVE THEM ALONE... if they unravel, have faith in them... they will lock in time.
goodluck guys on your journey... Remember, dreadlocks is not a Fashion, it is a lifestyle......
