and at just 4 inches it's going to take a bit longer to tangle/knot. . .give it a year-year1/2 and you'll see some good progress.

I'll make an effort to keep it shiny, and hopefully stuff'll happen (it's not staying together just about, so I guess it's 'steady as she goes'!)

Yes, they take lots of time my friend, IMO, its why they call it a journey, your hair will be crappy, loose, flyaway for a long while, put on a tam, headband and forget about it! Oh and dont listen to all your goofy friends and family its your hair, wear it proud. (ditch the mirrors) LOL

i avoided the wax and back comb that doesnt realy work they will juss unknot get some palm rubbing rub it threw your unknotted spotts and just leave it be. and yes neglect the mirror also.
