Re: Ramadhan Mubarak!

I think ramadan living in a muslim country's sort of made me feel like this whole thing's about proving to everyone what a good muslim you are rather than learning from the experience. So many people are going "OMG you aren't fasting! shoo hada ya5i! what is this?" and then the next day "yeah im fasting now" with a hint of "am i a good muslim now?"
In dubai, us foreigners are not allowed to eat, listen to music in public(or have it play real loud inside your car or house), or watch TV with our windows open(if you live in a house where your TV's shown to everyone outside).
WHY?
What's the point doing that? Isn't the point of ramadan to teach you how to appreciate what you have and how to be able to not give into temptation, etc, etc?
They just control all the factors that would make them break their fast or whatever, and i'm sorry, but that to me is CHEATING.
Just the other day there was a huge issue in the papers because a child was eating biscuits in a supermarket and the person behind the counter(a muslim) made an issue because that little child had tempted him/her. Check the letters to the editor and you've got the funniest complaints ever.
"I put the radio on and they were playing music before iftaar".
WHY THE **** DID YOU EVEN PUT THE RADIO ON IN THE FIRST PLACE!?
then there's people complaining about the TV, and how people kiss on the TV and it arouses them and take their mind off allah. I'm sorry, but **** you. **** you and your stupid complaints. I don't understand their mentality.
if YOU know that YOU want to do this or that, then do it, don't go LOOKING for something to throw you off so you can ***** and moan about it.
Cant eat?
Dont go near the food court.
Cant listen to music?
Dont turn on your ****ing radio
Can't watch kissing without getting raging hardon?
**** man, you've got a problem to begin with, and Stop watching TV then.
It really is that simple, but they make it seem like this whole thing's so hard and that we should all feel sorry for them and be sensitive because they're being so religious.
Another thing I dont understand is how when they're fasting, they're all so ****ing sensitive. They come up to you and say such swak things, and can be so rude and **** and in the midst of all of this they add "I'm fasting unlike you". Later on in the evening, they go "listen I'm sorry about today...I was fasting".
What the ****? Being hungry is an excuse to get away for being an insensitive stretched out asshole? Not just with things they say. They drive like ****. I'm not even joking, I am afraid to drive on the roads around 6pm during ramadan. They drive like ****, they're aggressive and **** it is so annoying because there's always an accident and there's always traffic and you're surrounded with a bunch of hungry muslims waiting to go home and stuff their faces who can't understand that flashing their lights and hooting unnecessarily will NOT make the traffic magically disappear.
And another thing. WHY do they need a month to learn all this ****? Why can't they make a conscious effort to do it in their own time without the moon telling them to. They're such hypocrites. For the whole year, they do **** which would make you wonder if they're muslim..****, you begin to wonder if they're even a religious person. But then the month comes and all day they're praying and being 'good' muslims and after iftaar it's back to normal. They also fast all day only to stuff their faces in the end. It's like they miss a few meals and make up for it. I always thought ramadan was a time where you learn to appreciate what you have by making you understand what its like to be poor or whatever(there's more to it than that though, I am aware)
It really really ****ing irritates me. Please note, not ALL muslims do this. There are a whole bunch though, honestly I think there are more hypocrites then there are true honest muslims, at least here in dubai.
I do not hate muslims or anything, and I dont mean to disrespect their religion or anything, even though it might come off that way. Just letting ya'll know.

Re: Ramadhan Mubarak!
no, no offense taken. and i'm totally there with you as far as those wolves in sheep's clothing; they just ain't right.
for me, and it may be for some of the people you're dealing with, ramadhan is a time to make amends for things i've done in the rest of the year and a press myself not to do it again. sometimes, though, it's like new year's resolutions. so you just try the best you know how.
it's also about fundamentally changing the way you operate for a month. i LOVE to eat, i mean LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to eat. so to turn down my plate and glass all day, then do 8 extra ra'ka of prayer [hopefully going through the entire qur'an in a month], then to try to cut out the other bad actions and influences in my life... yeeeeeeeeesh. but i do it, because i really love and seek to please God.
--- and miles to go before i sleep, and miles to go before i sleep...
