Dreads getting thinner at the roots

Some of my dreads are getting thinner at the roots while i don't root rub. And i almost don't rub my dreads while washing them to, don't wear tams or anything i can imagine that could cause thinner dreads at the roots....

the dreads i'm talking about look like those 2 right ones in front from oues
Image

will they get fatter over time or will they keep thin, because the feel already very tight...

i asked a question about this a while ago but got no replies. i was thinking it would do what sqreene said, but when does it usually start to equal the rest of the dread (like inches from the root).

Re: Dreads getting thinner at the roots

Vegan, It's diffrent for everyone, I've had this set of locks for 9 mont hs and the roots are just starting to look dreadedand equal to the texture of the rest of the dread. Give it time, thats all you really should do, Don't roll it that wil;l cause breakage and dont whtever you do flip it, the root will lock wayyyy slower if ever. Just wait it out man, good luck.

they're 7 months, and they started growing since 3 months ago after a period of huge shrinkage

don't know if they'll get fatter when they're getting longer because they feel so tight/hard... ahh well let's hope.. i'll see what happen..

Re: Dreads getting thinner at the roots

well, i'm no expert...but it looks kinda like two things are happening:

first that the roots are tightening a lot so they're shrinking up a bit and looking a lil thinner, because the tightening dread is sucking up all the hairs.

and second, that some of your loose hairs around the top (which are cool btw, they're super curly and cute...no offense. heh.) are shorterish and didn't get dreaded into the main part of the dread, so as they're growing they're not matted in with the rest of the dread yet...but that'll happen with time, and it'll fatten out...though the part right at the root now might not get a lot fatter, the dread that'll be made of hairs that haven't grown out of your scalp yet, which will form where those thinner roots are right now, will be a lot thicker.

just my $0.02...ok, maybe more like $0.03.

Re: Dreads getting thinner at the roots

just because you backcombed your locks to a certain thickness,
does not mean that the new growth will be the same.

the new growth is how all your dreads are going to be
(keeping in mind that dreads do thicken in time).

so your dreads aren't getting thinner, you just originally
backcombed thicker locks compared to how they are now growing out.

as you can see they did shrunk allot and because fatter too...
the new growth is how all your dreads are going to be
