someone told me my locks look disgusting/insults

i think there was already a thread or 2 about this topic but here i go anyway..
i work with a super ignorant girl.. she touched my hair the other day and aid ewww thats disgustin
then last night she said i have horse hair
i cut some freas rosemary off the plant at work and she asked why, i told her i was going to make shampoo with it
she replied, that must be why your hair looks so disgusting

i was completely and utterly shocked and just walked away

i try to treat everyone with respect(unless kidding around or in an exceptional circumstance) how people want to dress or look is a beautiful thing, i love diversity

i just forget sometimes that everyone is not like this

how would you treat this situation??
i dont want to insult her or be mean back but ive never encountered a situation like this
plus, i love my dreads and wanted them for me not to please anyone else
BUT
i still dont like being insulted

i get comments all the time but usually its from passers by in the street. I live in Essex in a slightly rough area so they say insults to just about everyone that walks past them. Some people feel its just honest to voice their opinions even if its not a positive one. Like you said, you have dreads for yourself, not her, so her opinion doesn't matter. Maybe you should ask someone that knows her better if she realised that you took it as an insult, she might apologise. Most people don't seem to understand dreadlocks, thinking thats its sticky rather than nots holding it together. She probably didn't realise you were actually going to make a shampoo that would have any cleansing effect.

sad - they dont say anything if someone is being robbed, but they must take it upon their self righteous selves to advise regarding a persons hair.. what kind of people gave we become man, its sad.

tell her it's none of her business what her hair looks like and that it's inappropriate for her to comment on her hair, because she doesn't want you commenting on her veracose veins.
