Grantaire bit his lip slightly. Oh yes, Marius was definately in trouble, considering what the Inspector had just said. Grantaire had never been very good a helping people, however, he was very good at acting drunk. The cynic smirked to himself, and idea coming to him immediately. What better person than a drunk to disturb the peace? Hell, it wasn't as if he didn't already reek of alcohol anyway. Hopefully the destraction would allow Marius and that gamin to make somewhat of a getaway. Maybe even that man who seems so concerned might help them out. Grinning craftily, he cleared his throat softly and began to sing in a loud and very drunken-sounding voice as he purposefully stumbled out from the shadows of the street and into the light of a streetlamp:

Grantaire chuckled drunkenly, raising a hand to sloppily pat the Inspector on the shoulder in an attempt at a good-natured gesture.

Javert gives a short, quiet laugh "How can you be sure that your off-key singing did not disturb the peace, for it certainly disturbed my own, and therefore the law's peace of righteousness, and this makes the matter quite a simple one, don't you agree with that ?"

Valjean felt like slinking away back into the house as he listened to the argument between the drunk and the Inspector. He was hardly able to hide his smile of amusement as he listened to the two of them. He put his hand over his mouth, folding his other arm over his broad chest and pretended to be concerned with what was happening. His eyes flitted to the shadows of the garden, silently praying for Cosette's young man to have the sense to slip away with his friend while the Inspector was distracted.

Grantaire's eyes flitted around slightly, hoping to see whether Maruis and his friend had made a getaway yet. However, now that Javert had a frim hold on his collar, he was quite unable to veiw anything past the Inspector's broad shoulders.
"Aw, now 'Spector, s'matter of op...opin...opinion whether m'singin' s'off...offkey." Grantire explained, shaking a drunken finger at the other man.
