Cosette is rather intreigued by the two students, dare she think it?, looking at her. She wishes the opportunity would arise to go back to that bench...Suddenly an idea pops into her head.
"Papa! I think you may have left your handkerchief on the bench! We should go back and get it."
Her father grunts. "I have plenty more Cosette."
Cosette quickly puts on a pout. "Oh, but Papa, I embroidered it specially for you! I would be terribly upset if you were never to use it again."
Jean Valjean sighs deeply, then nods against his better judgement. "Alright. Let us go and retrieve it."
Cosette smiles happily and hurries back around the bend, greeted by the sight of her young man.
