Back at the Barricade....
'We are all going to die.'
Coincidentally, that is the first thought that flits across Grantaire's mind as he tosses one last chair onto the barricade before he stills, tipping his head back to look up to the top of this wall of carts, chairs, tables, books, stalls, anything they can find. It will not hold. He knows this. He knows death awaits at this barracade, and that it is staring him in the eyes, laughing. And yet, somehow, he can't bring himself to care.
He chuckles dryly as he passes a hand over his face to tidy up a stray lock of brown hair, his hand feeling his stubble-rough cheeks. Should'a shaved. May-as-well go to death looking all nice and clean.
But Grantaire knows that it isn't going to happen. He's going to go to his death as grungy and scruffy as he is now, trying to protect Apollo from the harm that will befall them.
But he also knows that this isn't going to happen. Apollo will die like the rest of them, and a pain goes through him momentarily, making his breath catch. The golden god will die on this barracade. He knew it from the moment he began to watch him speak, watched as his words of rebellion stirred the hearts of others; those that stand by his side now.
'Myself included.' he thinks ruefully. He is not here because he believes, by any miracle, that this will succeed. Oh no, he is not a fanciful poet like Jehan. He is a realist. He is a cynic. He knows how the world works, and he knows he is going to die.
And all he can wonder is: 'How soon?'

He knows that they probobly won't last long. NO one besides his friends had been brave enough to fight for their rights. They were severly out manned, out trained and out gunned. They needed some way to get the upper hand. It would be extremely difficult for his band of school boys to defeat even a handful of the National Guard. He prayed that God was on their side and for protection.

Grantaire's head jerks up at the call of his name, and he glances over towards the form of Courfeyrac, who is quickly approaching. When he reaches the cynic, he is smiling gaily, as though he will laugh in the face of death with the triumph and fire that has always defined him.
"Come, Winecask. There is a meeting in the cafe!" Courfeyrac reports, urging Grantaire towards the brown building next to the barricade. The cynic gives the red-head a charactaristically cynical smile, and humors him.
"Alright, 'Fey, I will come with you, though I do not believe Apollo will appreciate my presence."
At this, Courfeyrac laughs and pats Grantaire good-naturedly on the back, countering the cynic's grin with a toothy one of his own.
"If you continue to call Enjolras 'Apollo', this will certainly be true." Courfeyrac states, as the door of the cafe swings open to admit them. "But come anyway, dear Winecask, for where would we be without your cynicism to brighten our day?"
For once, Grantaire finds the semblance of a true smile on his face.
"Heaven only knows, 'Fey. Heaven only knows."

Javert scratched his head unconsciously over the pondering that was going on inside his mind. It would be a particulary effective opportunity if he could just play it right. But this was just it about Javert. He hated to lie, and that he did with a passion. He had managed his work with every archievement that one could wish for,or at least almost, and yet had never used a fault word or promise. He simply did not lie. But now his orders were clearly encouraging him to do so, and loyality towards his superiours had to have a far higher rank then that he held towards himself.

Grantaire frowned at the man who had volunteered, trying to remember if he had ever seen the other man before. His muddled brain failed to come up with an answer, so he just shrugged, and settled on a sarcastic comment that was said so low that surely only Enjolras and Courfeyrac, who were standing near him would have heard it.
"Fat lot of good it'll do." he muttered. "We all know we're going to die anyway, so why bother?"

Grantaire started slightly at the responce from the man who volunteered, and he shruged, sinking into himself so as to hide better in the crowd. Next to him, Courfeyrac snorted with laughter and smirked at him, as if to say 'Well, that showed you, didn't it?'

"Grantaire, would you kindly refrain from discouraging the men." Grantaire mocked in a soft, but hich pitched and annoying voice, and Courfeyrac snorted into his hand. Grantaire smirked a bit at 'Fey, and began to move his hand, in a 'blah, blah, blah' motion as Enjolras spoke. Courfeyrac's shoulders jerked with laughter that he was trying to smother into his palms.
