Re: transformers halloween costumes
I'll suggest it to her at the con. With sufficiant carbon fibre or titanium struts in the 'feet' and counterweights in the shoulders, you'd just need a Long Haul with a strong back and five light people willing to inherit all the status of clothing for the duration of the combination.
Anyway, has anybody encoded video of your G4 appearance, Marky Marc?
And where's the TF Cosplay update?

Re: transformers halloween costumes
hi guys !!!
sorry for the long time for an update... been so damn busy !!! well the question was asked if a transformeable optimus prime was possible with someone inside.... yes it is !!! but the way it has to work well... it,s like the powermaster prime... sitting down instead of the other way around... execpt you would need the front of the truck on both the front and rear for this to work... also you have to be able to extend both legs sideways in truck mode witch i think would work and extend the cabin so to hide both arms ....also one think could work to hide the head ... a deflector that would hide the head and go on the back in robot mode.... but of course both robot and truck mode would look diiferent then the g1.....
also it,s official ...a starscream transformeable suit will be built but transforms into a yf-22 instead of the classic f-15 and also possibly a transformeable CYCLONUS ....that will depend on my client !!! both costumes will be shown on my website with their progress ...so there is allot comiing in the next few months !!!
mark
ps: for the screen savers segment i do know that some bittorent sites do have sreen savers episodes for download ,so if you find anything please let me know !!!

Re: transformers halloween costumes
I've thought about the transformable optimus and have some plans, but it would be a while til I built it, it would involve the sitting down, but instead of having your arms in the arms they would be concealed in the body, using some kind of animatronic system for the arms.

Re: transformers halloween costumes
With my transformable Prime design (has everybody who posts here drawn one up?), the torso is about half a foot wider than the wearer needs to fit and the shoulder to be attached at the top with a swinging bracket, and on the sides with spandex. by slipping ones arms out of the 'sleeves', you could slide the upper body assembly up a bit, leaving room to swing it back. You wind up lying on your stomach, propped up on your arms and peeking out of the grille. That's the closest I've come to replicating the G1 transformation, at least on paper.
Of course, Gutter Monkey beat us all to it. His transformed similarly, only by having his elbows where the shoulders would be and the arms shorter than the torso, he just had to arch his back and fall down. A simple solution that I felt a fool for not thinking of.

Re: transformers halloween costumes
Eh, I was never fully satisfied with my transformation technique. The BIG problem was that I had to get to a sitting position - and that's pretty darned scary when you're on stilts!! I've got actual video footage of it going horribly wrong - I fold back the arms, spin the torso around and throw myself back onto my ass, and all would have gone well except the truck cabin didn't stay upright, it splattered windscreen-first onto the ground. The costume pretty much fell apart at that point and everyone leapt about 2 feet in the air because they thought I'd broken my back.
(For the record, I was fine. I was much more worried about the costume.)
So my design never transformed without aid, which looked as sucky as hell. So I won't claim it as a successful transformation. But I'm currently remaking the darn thing ...
Hey, tfcosplay, I've been meaning to ask about Darren McRobo. In the 'news' section on the tfcosplay site for May 1st 2004 you report quote: In other news, check out the detail on this Optimus Prime mask from Darren's McRobo Creations site. For those who don't know Darren, he was the one responsible for this transforming Optimus Prime costume...
The links are busted so I never got to see this 'transforming' costume, even though I drove myself nuts doing a thorough search of the web for any mention of it. What was the story with Darren's OP?

Sweet! Thanks!!
Hmmm ... damn good costume. He can sit down in it! I am SO jealous.
But he has to get out of the costume to transform it, yeah? I suspected as much. I spent quite some time squinting at the li'l thumbnail on tfcosplay trying to figure that out. Still, the finished transformation is better than what I achieved.
Darren's put some great detail on that costume - the inside of the arms, etc.. The hand/headlight interplay is cool too, and the fact that it all folds in under the torso properly is amazing. It's intersting to see how he solved the problem of squooshing the arms into the upper torso.
Hmmm! Wow, that was worth the wait.

Re: transformers halloween costumes
He wound up selling it on ebay. It went for four hundred dollars, if I remember correctly.
A little low, but I suppose it's hard to find somebody who recognises what it's worth.
