Re: transformers halloween costumes
go ahead for now, I think I'll be having this webserver going for a while, it's pretty convienient for hosting pics, and as for the eyes, I had some plexiglass with some of that red see through stuff, that I was going to put over top, but I just didn't have enough time to get it all implemented, I really need to get some pics of laserbeak, so wicked to have a lifesize version

Oh and you already have a pic up of my optimus costume under primus. I'll try to get up pics of my megatron costume as well.

Re: DancinFool's costume pics
OK, I've added those in. May version should be up sometime this week.
Today's problem: Trying to find out if Scollon Productions has any photos anywhere of their Optimus Primal costume, or if they're just being a tease.

May issue of TFCosplay is up
The May issue is up.
This ish - one Prowl, two Optimuses, and DancinFool's costume gallery (of course!). Plus a detailed Prime mask from McRobo Creations, links to Paul and Anna's Bumblebee have been restored, and an article on Kelly Delcambre.

Re: transformers halloween costumes
June edition of TFCosplay is coming soon. Mostly links for aspiring costumers, although I'm including the Giant Optimus from DragonCon and the rather tasty Grand Convoy (Energon Optimus) that a Japanese fan put together. Plus, I've been tinkering with site options for feedback, and with luck people should be able to tell me what they think.

Re: transformers halloween costumes
June edition is up. The Giant Optimus links show that the operator's hands only come to the outfit's elbows, so the designer might have some tips for a Devastator outfit.
I still don't have any examples of either Devastator or Grimlock (robot mode, anyway) on the site. I guess people have given them up as "too difficult". Little do they suspect.
I _really_ want to see the Jolly Green Giant in costume form. I had some vague plans for a semi-transforming one, but it's been too long since I had an actual toy to take measurements from. Plus, of course, it would require huge amounts of electrics (mainly RC car circuits, transformation acutators, sturdy drive mechanisms) and electronics (PIC chips, radio comms) to pull off. Not to mention the frame reinforcement for Long Haul.
Really, about the only thing it would have been able to do autonomously would be to drive onstage in vehicle modes in a slow procession, manouver into position, and interlock and transform. The wearer could then walk around and pose etcetera, although they would be in a similar position to DF's costume. Plus with all the motors, batteries, drive mechanisms etc, it'd probably weigh a ton.
Overall, not the most comfortable thing to clunk around in. Suitable only for quick stage presences rather than extended hallway appearances. Still, with appropriate stage lighting and soundtrack - "Constructicons! Merge, into *Devastator!*" <slow transformation sound> - it might have managed to be briefly entertaining.
I imagine that any Devastator costume to actually make it off the drawing board would have to be lighter and easier to move around in than this.

Re: transformers halloween costumes
hum... devastator i dont think that it should be that complex especially since it does not transform the only thing like you said taht might be a bit rought would be the hands and the fingers since the arms are very long.....
in my very short and creative time that i have i have been able to design a pretty amazing OMEGA SUPREME an idea that i,ve been playing around for the past 2-3 years .... and the only thing that i now need is TIME to build it .... and man would it kick ass if everything works on it

Re: transformers halloween costumes
Omega vs Devastator, live and loud!
Seriously, this would make a fantastic 'Clash of the Titans'-type ensemble. As a skit, masquerade entry, or just photo-fodder.
Omega was one of the trickiest of all characters to figure out how to make a transforming costume from. It took me weeks of gnawing at the problem of separate components and correct placement. In the end, I 'solved' it in much the same way as Devastator - I threw a lot of electrics at it, and made the transformation completely automated. Omega would probably have been the only one of my designs that needed to be plugged into a wall socket to transform.
The wing/track conversion was a stone *****, it would have been too heavy and cumbersome to walk in without powered assistance, and the transformation would probably have taken close to a full minute. Its entire masquerade skit would have been "converting to robot mode and then trying to get off the stage before the time limit expired".
On the plus side, the tank and gun arm were going to have compressed-air paintball-style launchers that shot glowing ping-pong balls. Heh.
Cardboard and plastic is probably a heck of a lot more feasible. Will the cannon on the back of the head be modified to avoid clobbering the passers-by? I often wondered if it could be made to point down like a ponytail. Then there's the whole problem with the knees, given the width of the legs.
Will we be seeing an operational claw?
