One thing I've been meaning to ask - mainly of Mark, but also of anyone else who's won prizes at costume contests.
Is there a list of these contests somewhere? It's great to know that there are places that will cough up big dollars for good costumes, but how do we go about finding these opportunities in our own area?
Mark - how did you hear about the contests you went to? Are they advertised?

In my area just about every night club has a costume contest, that's where I've won prizes. It's a wide range for top prize I've seen from 500 - 10 000 dollars.

well for my part i go mostly at nightclubs... but you must be very carefull because in the 10 years i,ve been in contest some clubs DO cheat one very popular way is to claim to give big prizes and i can tell you this is true because i knew some people who work in clubs and what they do is to make a very hot costume and that someone of the staff wears it and make damn sure they win ...sometimes i made their jobs a hell of allot complex since mine was way better by a factor of at least 10 and they had a hard time explaining this to angry customers who dont like cheaters.... so be very suspicous of big prize like this 1st is 5000.00 and the second and third are 1000.00 - 750.00 this tells you that if the house wins the 5000.00 well they,ll only have 1000.00 to 2000.00 to pay in prizes .....
so be carefull....

yeah the club I went to last year claimed a 1000 dollar grand prize, instead it was 500 and another 500 dollars in prizes, then at the end of the night they asked for my phone number and said they would be in contact with me for the rest of the prizes, surprise surprise that never happened, oh well live and learn. We have one place though thats sponsered by a radio station for their contest, that one has the 10 000 dollar grand prize, and I don't think they cheat, they have some crazy costumes though, I've just seen the pictures, I think last years was the mystery machine from scooby doo, and someone made little models of all the characters and put them in the front, it was cool.
On a side note, started my optimus costume yesterday, it's really shaping together quick
Hey does anyone know a good place to find cardboard?

hum... that,s funny you should mention a radio station.... try to imagine this one year my transforming hot rod was beaten by guess what a women disguised as a rat trap with a rat inside her mouth and well the club was sponsored by a well known radio station ...guess some dj and radio host have a bit too much ego or are a bunch of &%*$&*$# oh well like you said live and learn

I started working on my optimus costume the other day, it's coming along great, right now I'm just concentrating on getting the chest done and all its detail work. I've got some basic doors built for the front, and have set up some motors for the 2 chest doors, and the matrix chamber, right now the part I'm having troubles with is just trying to figure out the best place to mount all the electronics  haha.

it,s sound great ...one place that i could recommend to place all of the electronics ,including the batteries is in the back section of your costume....i have one question for you... what kind or system or how are you going to get inside the body piece... if you ever need help with that i have tried about 4 different systems and i,ve designed a new one witch i will try when time allows....
