New site for George Ward School
Just to kick things off - what are your views on the plans to relocate George Ward School to the site near Woolmore Farm (on the Devizes Road near Bowerhill)? It looks like quite a big project and I'm sure nearby residents will have something to say!

Re: New site for George Ward School
I think that a new school is just what melksham needs. I think the placement of the school could have been thought about a little more, is there no land available behind the Spa surgery? I feel that the children of Forrest will have further to go to this school. Maybe a more central location would have been a better option.

Re: New site for George Ward School
Isn't there already a suitable site on the grounds of the current school. My thinking is the decision isn't logistical, it's financial.

Re: New site for George Ward School
I understand your thinking about the existing site but could you imagine the logistical challenge of trying to run a school and have builders on site - especially if the project estimates taking months/years to build (and you know how likely building deadlines are to run on - just look at Wembley Stadium!! [not saying GWS is as big as Wembley! ]).
I agree - start from scratch with a whole new school.

Re: New site for George Ward School
I only left George Ward two years ago and having seen all the new blocks that have been built, I think that it's a bit of a waste to move the school to an entirely new site.
What's going to happen to the GWS site once the new school is built?
I think it would have been a better idea to continue improving the existing site, as schools go it's not all that bad in my opinion.

Re: New site for George Ward School
Whilst it will be sad to see the old school go, it is needed.
But if it is relocated to Bowerhill, it will cause a lot of problems for pupils living in Shaw and Whitley, to name but few, or will there be transport provided?
Ijust hope that the old site doesn't become a decaying eyesore for many years, as was the old GEC site, despite many applications
to redevelop, which were continually turned down by the 'Powers That Be'
On a more positive note, I''ll be able to leave home later in the mornings, as I wont
have the school run to contend with>

Yeah, definatley! Maybe a couple of hairdressers too.
I really hope they don't start building houses there though.
