Re: New site for George Ward School
"What would you like to see built there then Sonic? if not houses."
I think it's completley unnecassary to move the school from that site at all.
It doesn't need to be knocked down, there's nothing wrong with it and I can say this because I only stopped being a student there 2 years ago, and since then there have been major improvements!
All it needs is a lick of paint.
The money would be better spent on resources, not location.
And I completley disagree with building it on a greenfield site!
It's ridiculous, just another example of how money is wasted.

Re: New site for George Ward School
Im with you about the location ,although I can see why the logistics of trying to build and run a school at the same time may be difficult, but I do believe its time for a new build, having looked around several local schools recently for my daughter,George Ward is significantly in need of a major overhaul,if not rebuild and it would give it a new ethos also.
I understand aswell that its a possibility that it will be getting a new name, and a new uniform? This would be a good idea, a new start.

Re: New site for George Ward School
a new start might be a good idea.
and the uniform sucks, I only had the white shirt and tie before they changed it to a polo shirt, which in my opinion looks scruffy as anything!
and it would be difficult to build and work there at the same time.
what i thought might be a good idea would be to build the new school on the OTHER playing field?
I don't know.
It just makes me annoyed.

Re: New site for George Ward School
thats a good idea about the other field, I had forgotten about that. I presume that they would have looked at all options and for reasons we dont know, discounted them.
I went to look around Abbeyfield and was very impressed with the schoool building itself and they way the school was run, andthe children all looked the same and SMART-not something that that awful uniform for George Ward looks. So I think they def. need to rethink the uniform and bring back the white school shirt, which looks much smarter.

Re: New site for George Ward School
Yeah I don't know what possessed them to change it - trying to be "hip and modern" probably.
Yuck!
Maybe I'm just old fashioned!

Re: New site for George Ward School
I use to have to wear that hideous tie and maroon jumper.
Mind you at least it was not enforced that the all the girls had to wear the hideous pink gingham summer dresses.
Only the first years wore them never to be seen again. But of course they are no longer first years but year 6 or what ever it is.
I reckon they should put George Ward School in the middle of salisbury plain with all my old teachers
Yours
Calley

Re: New site for George Ward School
Sonic ,if your old fashioned and only left 2 years ago, what does that make the rest of us!
I think a smart uniform, worn properly, gives the feeling of belonging and also respect.
What some of them wear and call their"uniform"at the moment,I would of got sent home for when I was at school!
I think when the new school opens this is something they really need to clamp down on and enforce quite strongly.

Re: New site for George Ward School
My old school was rebuilt on the same site while we used the old buildings with no particular problems and that was in the 1960s! We can surely do the same now.

Re: New site for George Ward School
Did anyone go to the George Ward open evening?
I was impressed with the facilities on offer for our children, the new headmaster and the number of people that attended,I also went last year and the number of people attending had at least doubled.
Looking around the building once again,it is glaringly obvious that we need a new school to take Melksham into the 21st century......I and my children look forward to seeing the plans for the new school.
Good luck George Ward!

Look out for the next issue of Melksham Independent News (out 9th November) for a report on the first plans to be released for the new site for George Ward School.
