Lack of Kitchen at new hospital
The question was posed by sustainable Frome group about a lack of kitchen at the new community hospital on which building work has just begun.
It was suggested that a lack of traditional kitchen facilities is unrealistic in terms of supplying food that meets dietary requirements, and in providing locally grown produce.
It was also suggested that having just microwave meals reduces choice for patients and prevents something simple being heated for a patient who is admitted late, or who may require something out of the ordinary food time.
What are people's opinions on this?

Re: Lack of Kitchen at new hospital
I have spoken to Wendy Marshfield, project director for the new hospital and she said this:
"The new frome community hospital will have full kitchen facilities which will not only provide cook freeze but also traditional methods of food preparation and cooking.
"To clarify, cook freeze will be used for main courses and hot puddings, and the remaining menu will be prepared onsite using authorised suppliers to ensure the trust is able to audit compliance for safe food handling.
Local suppliers will continue to be used for provision of fruit and vegetables,
"I would also like to confirm that we will continue to offer pureed meals and specialist diets.
I’d also like to confirm meals will be plated individually on china plates and catering and nursing staff will continue to be responsible for identifying patients needs individually.
"The recipes that we use will continue to be chosen from the lloyd grossman’s better hospital food guide."
