Town Council Supports Plan to Extend Quarry
Cllr Bill Braid said that there are only a limited number of times they can say no. Really?? Surely "no" should mean "no" and that's the end of it. Does this mean that if I want to implement anything unpopular, all I have to do is ask enough times to wear the local council down until they give in? He also said that it wouldn't be seen from the bypass; well forgive my flippancy, but if the bypass isn't built, we wouldn't need so much cement in the first place!
Three cheers for the councillors who had the gumption to oppose the extension.
p.s. f.y.i., at their meeting on 13 December at 10.30am, the Regulatory Committee of Wiltshire County Council are due to discuss Lafarge's planning application to extend the Westbury Chalk Quarry.
The supporting documents for this meeting are now as usual (and metaphorically speaking) hidden in a locked filing cabinet in the basement of Wiltshire County Council's website. A good place to start looking for them is here: http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/assemblies-and-committees-diary-and-year-book/council-meetings.htm then click on "meeting papers".
