Hogwarts Roleplay
The year was 1901 and a group of firs years boarded the tiny wooden boats to take the traditonal journey across the lake to Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardy.
"Well Fawkes, this is it." Albus said to the tiny baby bird in his tin shoebox as he fed it a maggot. He had an opportunity to take one animal, he could've chosen a cat, or a rat, or even a owl. But Albus loved the tiny pink naked bird he'd hatched over the summer and he didn't want Fawkes to go hungry while he was away.
Albus nervously put his brown shoulder length hair into a ponytail as the little wooden boat reached the shore, under the looming shadow of Hogwarts. It was Albus' first day of school.
His family consisted of Squibs (Wizards and Witches who could not use magic.) They had been that way for over a century. His father Meriwether worked in a shop called "Cleansweeps" and his mother Anastasia stayed at home, tending to Albus' three younger siblings.
Albus did not want to go to Hogwarts. He couldn't use magic and his family were regarded as peasents in the Wizarding community.
They were so poor infact, that Albus had to have a donation from the HeadMaster to afford going to Hogwarts and his robes were hand made from bed sheets his mother had dyed black. His books all hand me downs from when his uncle tried to attend and failed. Even his wand, was something he found near the railroad tracks behind his house and he didn't even know if it would work.
The boat made a soft "thump" as it reached the shore below the looming shadow of Hogwarts. Albus covered Fawkes with bedding and closed the lid of the shoebox to keep him warm. He placed all his items, which of course, was very few in a wicker basket and for the first time in his eleven years of existence set foot on the school grounds.

Re: Hogwarts Roleplay
(((OOC: I love j00~~ I didn't know if enough people on this board liked Harry Potter to RP, so I kept giving up on starting a RP, but here you go! ^_____^ I have a HP character, but she is in Harry's year...I suppose I can see what I can dig up from Elly's past! Perhaps her grandmother...)))
A young girl sat behind the brown-haired boy and curiously peeked over his shoulder at what he was feeding. Her droopy eyes with their long, thick, black lashes, often referred to as camel-lashes by her enemies, looked just as sleepy as always, despite the fact that she was very interested in what the creature could be.
She seemed to be oblivious to the great castle that was looming steadily larger over the group of first years. Instead she remained silently intrigued by the boy's shoebox. Her hair, which was long and dark red, prematurely streaked with large strips of grey, billowed in the gentle lake wind.
Elizabeth Maxwell came from a very long line of Scottish witches and wizards. Like her ancestors, her pale skin was dusted with freckles, and she proudly wore the Maxwell tartan in a bow holding up half of her hair. Still, despite her family's pride, they were never really known for much. Her mother had always told her, "It matters not what fame you've achieved, just as long as you've tried your best at everything you've done." Elizabeth had found that to be a trifle steroetypical, but for some reason, she still carried it with her.
Elizabeth's body lurched slightly as the small boat docked. She gathered up her school things and climbed ashore just after the brown-haired lad.

Re: Hogwarts Roleplay
(OOC: I had to, it's for Dumbledore. :) I wanted to make something new and orginal though and since I really like Dumbledore I thought it'd be cool to do one when he was in school so it would be all orginal and unpredictable.)
Albus tripped on a stone, some kids guffawed as a few contents in his basket clattered to the grassy ground below. Thankfully Fawkes remained unbothered in his tin haven, sleeping soundly in the basket.
Albus bent down to pick up the white wand he had found and bumped his head against the girl that had sat behind him on the boat. He stared up, she was pretty with long eyelashes and an amazing display of red and gray streaked hair.
"Forgive me." He flushed. "I'm sorry about that, I wasn't paying attention." He picked up the wand angrily. "I'm such a fool." He muttered to no one and looked away, ashamed at him self.
His famly was always over polite, because it was dangerous to be a Squib. You had no way to protect oyurself, so the best thing was to just stay out of people's way.
"Squib."
Albus hated that name. His pride was to strong for it. His pride that his father said, would kill him one day...
"If there's anyway I can repay what I did." Albus looked at the girl. "Let me know, I really am sorry." He sighed as he put his things neatly in his basket.
Fawkes let out a tiny, sleepy cry that could have been interpreted as: "Stop apologizing you moron."

Re: Hogwarts Roleplay
(OOC: I'm not the world's greatest HP fan, but I've read the books, so... Here goes nothing...)
Johnny snickered as he saw a kid beside him trip, distracting him from his nervousness. Scratching his black haired head, he tried to see what was inside the shoebox, but to no avail.
John's father was a squib, his mother a witch. Their marriage had not been liked by the bride's family, as you might expect, but she got married anyway. Years later, they had a son. John's father had always been a tad disappointed in his son, for even though John was big, he regarded boxing as a sport for the brainless, who wanted to lose even more of their brains.
John's skin was pale and his hair jet black(OOC: Ok, all my characters have black hair, so sure me!), reaching almost all the way to his kneecaps, was braided, ending in a tuft, with a heavy silver clasp holding the braids together.
Giving up, John once again shifted his attention to the castle looming in the distance, thinking about what he had heard, and read, about Hogwarts.
"Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin... I wonder where I'll end up.."
He started getting nervous again. Deciding that being nervous wouldn't help him in the least, he decided to make an attempt to cheer himself up.
Rumaging through his pockets, he soon found what he was searching for.
He put the flute to his lips and began playing a soft melody his father had taught him. His father had been an aspiring musician when he was little, and had passed on some skills to his son. John began playing faster, and was soon warmed up. He began playing a happier melody, but a guy in front of him turned to face him.
"Stop that infernal noise!" He roared, "We're trying to talk here."
Shrugging, John put the flute back in his pocket, kept walking, and concentrated on not getting more nervous than he already was.

Re: Hogwarts Roleplay
The girl's heavy eyes didn't lose any of their tired look as she squatted down, looking the boy stright in the face as he gathered the spilled contents of his basket. Again, the girl seemed oblivious to the world around her as some of her classmates laughed at the clumsy boy, and one began playing an enchanting song on a flute. Rather, she smiled gently and said in just as gentle a voice, "There's no need for that, lad. I'm sure it was an acident, and even if it wasn't, I wouldn't mind anyway."
Her dark robes brushed the grass as she stood up along with him, as he had managed to retrieve the rest of his belongings, and still looking at him squarely under her long lashes, "My name is Elizabeth Dairk Eyine Maxwell," She extended her hand to the flushed boy, "Who might you be?"

Re: Hogwarts Roleplay
Albus turned bright red. "Albus." He said hoarsly then coughed, turning redder still. "My name is Albus Dumbledore."
"First years! Line up behind me!!" Professor Binns said. He was a stout man with brown suit robes and he wore a black neck tie.
Albus clumsily shuffled behind a tall killed iwth white blonde hair. The line then entered Hogwarts through the fornt gate. There were four tables, each with kids sitting in them from years 2 through 7. They all stared at the first years who filed in, standing in a straight line before the sorting hat.

Re: Hogwarts Roleplay
"Albus Dumbledore, is it then?" Elizabeth muttered with a whimsical breath to no one in particular.
Then, for the first time since her attention was gained by Albus' shoebox, Elizabeth noticed something else. A roundish sort of man in a brown suit was shouting and motioning for all of the first year students to form a line. Of course, there was bit of a ruckus as various students tripped over one another and some even shoved others out of place. Elizabeth gracefully managed to slip into line without touching anyone else. She ended up about three students behind Albus. The girl just in front of her was wringing her hands so hard that Elizabeth wondered if the girl's dark skin might come off soon.
As the students trudged along, surounded in each other's nerves and wonder, Elizabeth silently took in the huge castle which she seemed to only have just noticed. They all tramped through the castles immense doors, and upward along a beautiful stone staircase. Stone statues of various magical creatures and shining suits of armor stood all along the walls.
Several gasps were heard, and small shriek, as one of the castle's ghosts rudely traversed straight through a group of students farther back in line. It had been, of course, the Bloody Baron on his way to greet Slytherin's students. Just outside the Great Hall's doors, the group of first years was stopped by a gangly old wizard, hunched ever so slightly forward. He raised one hand to slience the murmuring students and proceeded to speak in an official tone, "Welcome, First Years, to your life at Hogwarts. I am Professor Girrahipp, the Deputy Headmaster. Before you can be seated in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your proper houses. Stay in line and follow me."
With that, the wizened old man turned and led the ever more nervous group of eleven-year-olds into the Great Hall.
The place was quite enchanting, and even Elizabeth let out a gasp of wonder. Her droopy eyes rose slowly up toward the bewitched ceiling, which was as clear and dark as the night sky had just been outside. Thousands of candles floated weightlessly above them, casting the whole room in a golden light. The group suddenly stopped, causing a couple of students to bang into each other.
The room was quite silent as Professor Girrahipp walked up to a stool, and produced a tattered old hat from thin air. He placed it gingerly on the stool and stepped back. Before another sound could be made, the hat opened along a tear just above it's brim and began singing an amazing song (amazing especially for an old hat).
The lyrics darted here and there but the hat managed to describe all of Hogwarts' four houses with skill and flair. Gryffindor was honest and brave, Slytherin cunning and ambitious, Ravenclaw inquisitive and smart, and Hufflepuff loyal and hardworking. Elizabeth found herself wondering what house she would fit into.

Re: Hogwarts Roleplay
(OOC: Ok, I gotta ask, do they inform about Dumbledore's school years in book nr 6?)
John was just about to walk closer to the boy who fell, wanting to find out what he was keeping in the box, when a fat guy started ordering people to move and form a line. Before John was in line, he had tripped over three people, knocked five over, and had been crushed between two. He had just managed to shove the last two apart when the line began moving.
Looking over the the shoulder of the guy in front, he couldn't see the box-boy anywhere, and not the guy who had been shouting either.
"Now who is this geezer?" John thought when professor Girrahipp appeared, he was rapidly loosing patience with this whole "1st year ceremony". Tight spaces and lots of people, neither was his favourite situation...
The old wizard has stopped talking, thus the group began to move again, John followed without really thinking of it. He was still lost in his own mind when the line abruptly stopped, and once again he was crushed between the two guys next to him.
When he had once again gotten out of the painful situation, he looked up at the enchanted roof, he heard someone singing, but he didn't listen to it. He had to admit, the roof was impressive. The candles annoyed him, though.
"Why not just create some kind of ambient light?" He thought.
A moment later, he started to wonder why someone would be singing, so he looked around, seeking to identify the source. It didn't occur to him that it might be what everyone else is staring at, so it took him a minute or so to find the hat.
"Ok..? Oh, that has to be the sorting hat, I wonder why it's singing, though..."
Suddenly, the tear closed and Girrahipp opened a scroll. Reading from it, he loudly called;
"Aarenis, Renate"

Re: Hogwarts Roleplay
(((OOC: No, they never mention Dumbledore's actual time as a student, only as a teacher. All of this is PURELY up to us! I would assume that it is three or four generations behind Harry, and so two or three generations behind Snape, Remus, Sirius, and James. Also, be mindful that you don't take control of others' characters. I don't care too much with what you did, but just mind yourself ^_~)))
There must have been at least a hundred first year students to go through, because it seemed to take several long minutes just to finish the A's. Already there were two new Gryffindors, a Hufflepuff, seven Ravenclaws, and five Slytherins. The B's and C's continued to bore Elizabeth, and her eyes seemed more lazy than usual, her dark lashes concealing most of her earth-brown irises.
The D's started without so much as a stirring from Elizabeth. She had lost track of what students went where, and so she presently took up looking at the many and varied teachers lining the head table. She played a game in her mind where she decided which teachers taught what subjects. She had just gotten to guessing who taught Potions when she heard the grey-haired Deputy Headmaster read, "Dumbledore, Albus."
A general snickering was heard from a small group of students. Apparently they realized that this was the 'doofus' who had tripped right out of the boats. Elizabeth turned to them and gave them a stony glare, "Shut it, you lot." Some of them blushed as if they had been caught with their hands in the cookie jar, several others shot back firey glances, but Elizabeth had already resumed her regular state of gently gazing at her surroundings.
She was now deeply interested in what house this boy would be placed in. For some reason, she had decided she would like to be in the same house as he.

Re: Hogwarts Roleplay
(No, no past for Dumbledore, but he deserves it so we should create it for him. )
Albus looked up from his scuffing at the floor with his shoe. For some reason, everyone was staring at him, he was at the front of the line adn there was the sorting hat.
"Well, come on lad." Professor Binns said.
Albus staggered as he neraly tripped on the hem of his cloak and made his way, slowly, hish ands shaking to the big wooden chair, the hat held above it. He sat down, the chair was coldand hard. He gripped the armrests with white knuckles as hte hat was lowered on his head.
"Not Hufflepuff..." He thought. "Not Hufflepuff..."
"What's that?" The Hat mumbled to him. "Not Hufflepuff you say? Hmmm....why boy?" It asked.
"I...I have to be a sucess in life, I have to be brave, to help my family, ot help all of the poor people in London." Albus whispered, turning pink again.
"Successful? Brave? Your ambition makes you sound like a Slytherin. However, your to meek, to soft for that lot." The Hat frowned as if in deep thought.
"Hmmm..." It said as it rubbed it's brim with it's left chin strap. "Hmmm." It said again as it shifted on Albus' head.
"If you just beleive in yourself, Albus, then you will become as succesfull as you wish. But you must bleeive in you first, before you can help others. Great treasures lie within your reach, within you, great enough to help all. But do not hesitate." The Hat winked.
"......" The Hat was silent and so were the students as the gangly kid with thin robes and long brown hair sat, shifting impatiently.
"GRYFFINDOR!!!!!!!" The Hat roared.
The kids cheered as Albus clumisily stood up, his knees shaking and hesitantly took his place at the Gryffindor table.
He was curious as to what Elizabeth would be, hoping he would for the first time in his life, have a friend.
