October Challenge

Since we are a brand new board a "weekly challenge" seems like a huge goal.

So here is my challenge, I would like to see a fictional story based around the following scripture:

2 Kings 6:1-6 And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.
Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.
So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.
But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he showed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

Now, if we have at least 7 entries then the winning author will get a premium membership from me to RunBoard. The deadline is November 10, 2006.

I don't mean to interfere, but if you don't have a word limit this could get out of hand. Faithwriters uses 150 to 700 words and three of the boards in runboard use 200 to 300 words. They tell me that's part of the challenge. Also, the entries are e-mailed to one person who posts them with a poll box and nobody knows who they are voting for.

Hi Jondra,

I don't think you are interfering at all. I really appreciate the input because it helps especially on a new board or new forum such as this one.

So how about this, since I am sponsoring this challenge all stories should be e-mailed to me first.

The story should have NTC October Challenge in the subject line so I'll know what it is.

Since this is the first challenge lets start small say 250 words or less.

Only members of Near The Cross are eligible to win the prize.

Tell your friends, remember, if there are less than 7 entries I reserve the right to not award the prize.

Hows that sound?

Sounds like a really good start to me. But perhaps you should tell your friends about it. I've been a bit of a recluse for awhile.

Edit 10/5/06: I've been worried that this post might have come across as snotty or rude. It's just that this is the only Christian board I am member of. The others do not allow any discussion of religion. That is the reason I went looking and found this one. I do tend to isolate myself and a small board looked safe. I forgot that God is more interested in my character than in my comfort. I am excited about the Challenge. I think it's a good one.

I don't think Pastor Rick took it that way, I sure didn't emoticon We have never done this before so any ideas or suggestions are more than welcome.

Hi Jondra,

I didn't take offense but it sure is nice to see that you review your post and think about what others might think emoticon

If you have any other ideas on how to get this rolling feel free to jump in.

Hey, Pastor Rick, you really know how to make a challenge. There's such a great responsibility when dealing with scripture. I keep looking for the deaper meaning. I even found a 7 page preaching on that few verses about the axe head. Good Challenge. Even if nobody else enters at least I will have learned something new.
Have a Great Day. emoticon emoticon emoticon
