Bad publicity for organ donation?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7344343.stm

Rules are rules I suppose but the rules seem wrong in this instance. Should people be able to attach conditions to donating their organs?

I think that that you should be able to direct your organs to aid a relative before a stranger, but other than that no. I don't see why a relative should not get them as they are less likely to be rejected anyway.

What a sad case. I can understand the reasoning but I am reminded of the old adage; "rules are for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools".

I don't think anybody would really object to this woman receiving her daughter's kidney. It is completely different to saying that you will only donate if your organs go to white people/your liver to non-alcholics etc.

Especially in this case it's wrong as the daughter was already in the process of making a live donation and people are allowed to chose the receipient in these cases. I wonder who decided not to go ahead with the plan.
