Good gracious, Gidget, give it a rest already...no matter how hard you try, this Board and the rest of the Free World know that you're my B*tch...and don't be ashamed about that, many that have come before you have been folded into My B*tch stable, wear it with pride...

49ers beat the Bears 28-14. Here are some of my thoughts on both teams:

- New and improved Alex Smith. I think Norv Turner has made a difference and the fact that Smith is known as a quick study. He also did well against a top 5 defense in Chicago's. He seems to already have great chemistry with Antonio Bryant.

- Rex Grossman looked shaky at best. Bears fans are going to now call for Brian Griese but I think Lovie Smith still likes Grossman as his starting QB and will be willing to keep starting him this preseason. If Griese plays well throughout the preseason, he's going to have to give Griese the nod.

- I'd say Frank Gore has the early lead over Kevan Barlow for the race for starting RB. Gore still hits the holes quicker and has better vision.

- Mike Rumph looked really bad. His spot on the roster is in jeopardy. The former 1st rounder was completely schooled by former Arena Leaguer Rashied Davis, who beat him for a 41 year TD. Rumph also missed a couple tackles and coverage assignments. I don't think Nolan has ever been a big fan of his going back to last years camps.

I posted this on Saturday and it looks like I was correct in saying that his roster spot was in jeopardy as he was traded to the Washington Redskins for WR Taylor Jacobs tonight.

How good is taylor jacobs?
Does he get the 3rd WR spot?

Jacobs will compete with Bryan Gilmore and Brandon Williams for PT.

Getting rid of Rumph was good, anything Jacobs does for us is a plus.

Re: San Francisco 49ers Thread

For those that look on BBAO and the Niner part of that board, this will look familiar.

Here's my 49er wrapup, only a couple thoughts:

- Looked like, to me anyway, that Offensive Coordinator Norv Turner had a plan for Alex Smith tonight. It was for him to stay mostly in the pocket. And Smith struggled a bit, throwing 2 INT's. He made a great pass to Bryant, who caught it in the air, for 45 yards or so. It showed his improving arm strength. Not many playcalls for rollouts and for Smith to run around a bit. I thought the gameplan was to see how he would fare in the pocket and this is what the preseason is for.

- Inconsistent pass rush on Aaron Brooks. The pocket would break down but they couldn't get to him. I counted at least 2 sacks that should have been for the 49ers.

- Pass coverage was either bad or very conservative playcalling. It looked like a zone where they wanted to prevent the long play. They did but Oakland did well to adjust, instead of going for the long pass, they settled for 10 yard routes. The first team DB's really struggled without Shawntae Spencer, who I'm really high on.

Well, not very good. He has world class speed but doesn't really do anything else eye catching. His speed was the reason he was a 2nd round pick, and the fact that he was a Spurrier recruit at UF(remember Spurrier was HC of the Redskins at the time of pick). He has decent hands. Injury issues the past couple years have hurt his development.
