How about Zito for Beltre and Sexon
1st...you should know that I know that Zito knows that he has a no trade clause. Then again, being on a crappy team AND being booed has gotta sting a bit. That with 2 1/2 (Lowry) showing you up again & again...with another possibly coming this year...might make you long for the team you almost went to...Seattle.
The Giants get rid of Zito who I suspect will have a decent year this year. He finished strong, he's been on the team a year, he isn't the highest paid...blah blah blah. The Ms want pitching, they wanted Zito and they have a 1B who is expensive & crappy. They also are (or are rumored to have been) shopping their 3B who is expensive & not bad.
Giants get rid of 6years/$116M (or 7/$127M for the option) and get crap at 1B ($14M) & fill the 3B hole for 2yrs/$24M.
Total deal...M's get SP for 7/$127 Giants get crap & decent 3B for $38M. If the M's decide to keep Beltre around longer, he'll cost a bunch anyway.
Basically the M's lose their 3B & get a SP they have liked in the past (and who has mostly played in that division). It ends up costing them 7yrs/$89M & a 3B.
For the record...I don't hate Zito. However, the Giants have the 2 hot shots, Lowry, Sanchez, Correia, Valdez (maybe), Alderson, Bumgarner for cheap starting pitching. I hate to see ANY of them moved to open a spot in the rotation when we have expensive pitching that can likely be replaced for cheap in-house.

No, Jack's not an ass about his positions, no reaming necessary.
If this deal went through, Sabean would be admitting to facking up the Zito signing and it seems his arrogance knows no bounds. So would he? I don't see him taking that risk.
What you suggest is relatively safe (by that I mean the club can always point to saving $), but the team is taking big risks at the corners and blocking one kid from an honest shot (Ort). Then again, so is all this Clark noise. Zito is only 29, but the seven year deal last year was one of the dumbest contracts in modern baseball, so getting rid of it might seem like latent brilliance.

Re: How about Zito for Beltre and Sexon
Well, I hear you guys & know it isn't likely (hence my prologue), but the 7 years for $89M ($12.7M per year) isn't really that crazy seeing the contracts out there. Further, if you ignore the option year, it's 6 years for $78M ($13M per year) after the Ms dump the Beltre/Sexton contracts.
I really don't see the Ms having ANY problem dumping Sexton seeing as he was utter garbage last year (think Durham) and is at $14M next year. They are said to be shopping Beltre, so clearly losing their 3B for a pitcher is exactly what they have in mind. Now then, they may not want Zito or his contract...but they DO want a name pitcher & seem to be willing to move Beltre for it...let alone it's pretty clear they would be more than happy to dump Sexton.
So...would they want Zito for 6/$78 ($13M per)?

I don't think Sabean signed Zito, I believe Magowan and Baer did. Just like they did with Barry. Sabean deserves plenty of criticism, but I'm pretty sure it's not his fault on this one.
