What is this place and Who is Merkin????
What is this place??
I would like to say thanks for choosing this board to call your own.
We have almost 50 new members since last Thursday (10/12/06), which more than doubles our “active” population.
I know many of the existing board members personally from either meeting in person, over the phone, exchange of emails, or PM’s.
Now, I look forward to getting to know many new members as well.
So I figured it would make sense to give you a little background on the board you are posting on and the people that are your mods.
People who met each other (mostly) on the sfgiants.com Message Board created this board.
Until now, almost everyone came from the sfgiants.com board.
Each came over for various reasons, such as Trolls, Rude Posters, and Over Zealous Mods.
Now we try to run this board as the opposite of the sfgiants.com board.
Sfgiants.com trolls are banned upon recognition (and we have a couple that lurk here already)
The Mods are to remain neutral, and you can talk as much smack as you feel.
Posters are encouraged to be civil with each other, unless you know each other.... then talk as much **** as you want....
Now mods may make minor changes such as small graphics here and there, but any MAJOR changes such as board format our color schemes will have to have the support of the membership.
So anyway, we try to run this thing as a democracy and this is much your board as anyone’s. If you have a suggestion and get the support of the membership, the Mods will make it so (within the limits of technology and money).
Who is Merkin? (like anyone really cares)
OK, I started posting on the sfgiants.com board in 2004. That year the Giants top prospect had a first name that also meant Pubic Wig..... and this made me laugh to no end.. therefore..... the poster known as Merkin was born....
On the sfgiants.com board I’ve been harassed by trolls, had countless posts deleted, and been banned at least 10 times (usually, for no good reason). I continue to post on sfgiants.com, but I have spent more and more time on this board.
I was born in the Bay, but moved around until age 9, when I returned to the Bay for good.
I was always a baseball fan from when I was very little, but really became an obsessive Giants fan when I was a Freshman in High School in 1985. In 1986 the Giants had a good young team and I discovered APBA and Bill James Baseball Abstract and it was downhill from there.
I spent High School going to as many games as I could, until college in 1989. I was in my second month at college in October 1989, and I did NOT go to the Series in 1989, which was probably a blessing in disguise. I became more and more rabid and was in attendance the last day of the season in 1993, where I was assaulted by a group of Dodger fans.
Now the strike in 1994 REALLY hurt, and I was really pissed off at Major League baseball for a couple of years. I followed baseball in the years after the strike, but I was nowhere near as rabid.
But the 1997 team and Brian Johnson’s home run drew me back in and I started going to more and more games in 97, 98, and 99.
Now the new park came around in 2000, and suddenly it was easy in and easy out and that made a world of difference. I was now old enough to be making a pretty good living, and how could you NOT love that new park.... I became even more and more rabid about the Giants to the level of obsession.
After the World Series in 2002, I realized it was more economical to be a season ticket holder and I bit the bullet. I have been a season ticket holder for 4 years now, and I go to anywhere from 40-60 games per year. And that ain’t to bad considering it takes me 60-90 minutes to get to the park after work....
So that’s Merkin in a nutshell, just an rabid Giants fan that basically spends his time one of three ways...
1) Working
2) Watching Baseball
3) Reading or Talking Baseball
So as you can see, Merkin is a healthy well rounded person....
Feel free to PM him with any questions or whatever,
and if you are at the ball game, Merkin will buy you a Red Stripe... as long as it doesn’t interfere with watching the game
