What to do or where to stay??? HELP!
Here’s a list to help you while you’re in San Francisco.
1. What hotel should I stay at?
You should stay at a hotel that you can afford. Hotwire or Priceline would help you if you’re on a budget.
Some people like staying near the airport (SFO) and some like to be close to the park (Courtyard Marriott). It just depends on you. If you decide to stay in San Bruno you can hop on Caltrain and get off at the last stop.
There are hotels downtown near Union Square which would require a few blocks of walking and then taking the light rail. (Westin, Sir Francis Drake, Hyatt, Marriott, and the Four Seasons). These are some that are close to the Powell Street light rail station.
Hyatt Embarcadero is closer to the light rail station and even a nice walk (I am guessing at least a mile if not a bit more) to the ball park.
There is a hotel in Oakland that has shuttle service to the Bart station and service to the Oakland Airport. Hotwire it and it’s the only one near the airport. This is decent if you’re on a budget.
Where do the Giants stay?
The Giants stay at the Courtyard Marriott that’s a couple of blocks away from the park on 3rd Street.
2. Where is a good place to eat?
This is open to personal taste buds. There are places near the park (Amichi’s, Zeke’s, Gordon Biersch, Palomino, Red’s Java House, Java House, Momo’s, Acne Chop House Paragon, Tres Agaves, and Pete’s Tavern). There are also bars near by. 21st Amendment is close to the park.
3. How do I get to the park?
It depends where your hotel is. Some people like staying near the airport (SFO) and some like to be close to the park (Courtyard Marriott). It just depends on you. If you decide to stay in San Bruno you can hop on Caltrain and get off at the last stop.
There are many ways to get to the park, but it all depends on your hotel of choice. The light rail can take you if you’re close to the line. Make sure you’re taking the one that is headed Inbound. The two that you can take to get to the park is the N Judah and the T Third Street.
4. How much does it cost to take a taxi from the hotel?
This you would have to ask concierge or the front desk of the hotel.
5. How much does it cost to take the light rail? What bus or light rail do I take?
It really depends on how long you will be in San Francisco. Check here for information. Currently the price for one way is $2.00 and this is with a transfer. To avoid waiting in a long line purchase your return before you enter the park. Just don’t lose the transfer. The T Third Street and the N Judah go directly to the ballpark. Just follow the people wearing orange and black. Make sure you’re on the Inbound side. I believe there are other buses that go to the park. Check here for more details.
6. Where should I park?
There are lots right across the park and then there are some on Townsend Street. Most or average price is $10-$30.00. It depends on how early you get there. Sometimes the price goes down as it gets closer to game time so they can fill up and sometimes the prices go up do to the popularity of the game/event. There’s also Safeway parking which is usually from $20-30.00 depending on the game. I can tell you opening day is a lot higher than $30.00.
There is also street parking too. Be sure to check the signs and the meters to avoid getting a ticket. Some streets you cannot park during game days.
7. What’s there good to eat at the park?
Everyone has their favorite item. Garlic fries (share or you will be sorry), Irish Nachos, strawberry shortcake, etc. If it’s something you think you’ll eat buy it.
8. What seats are good?
It’s open to preference. Some like to be near the Giants dugout and others like to be with the bleacher creatures. There are some seats that don’t have a great view so if in doubt ask. Also, it depends on how much you are willing to spend. Price is also a factor if you’re trying to stay on a budget.
9. How cold does it get?
It depends on where you sit and the weather. I would say if you can’t handle the cold bring a warm jacket. If you’re taking a girlfriend or significant other or even just a friend and have an extra blanket bring it along. Some seats are cold at night. Arcade and lower box are cold if there’s wind. The warmest spots are club level and premium lower box where you can sit inside and enjoy your food.
10. What else is there to do in San Francisco?
There are ballpark tours on non game days. Check in the dugout store at the park to find out if they have them the day they have games.
11. What are some of the sights to see?
If you have time there are quite a few. It just depends on how much time you have and what you’d like to see. If you’re looking for views of San Francisco there are a couple of places. Coit Tower, Twin Peaks, and Fort Point have good and different views. If you want some souvenirs Chinatown would be the place. Lombard Street, Fisherman’s Wharf, Japantown, Cliff House, Cable Car museum, Palace of Fine Arts, Legion of Honor, Asian Art Museum, De Young Museum, California Academy of Science, Arboretum, Bison in the park, Stow Lake, Alcatraz and Japanese Tea Garden. I think I named most of them, but I might have missed a couple of museums.
12. If my significant other would like to shop where should he or she go?
Pretty much downtown and the malls have a lot of stores. If it’s something special that isn’t in the mall like Burberry they’re located a few blocks away from Chinatown and Union Square. There are specialty stores around Union Square (Niketown, Levi’s, Tiffany & Co. etc.)
13. Where can I buy tickets?
You can buy them online at StubHub, eBay, and Craigslist. Just be careful when buying tickets. You can also purchase them on the day of the game if they’re not sold out at the ticket window. If it’s not a game day and you would like to avoid the fees, go to the dugout store at the park and purchase them there. You save at least $5.00 in fees when buying at the park.
If you’re looking for tickets to a future game you can purchase them at the park behind home plate. If there is a code to purchase tickets with a discount (like when it’s a Timmy start with giantsk) they will take it. It will also save you fees.
