Why is there so much ill feeling from MJ scene at present?

A lot of us come from MJ as a background 'social' dance. The Big Cheese's Ceroc Forum provides a window into the current state of the Modern jive nation.
There is numerous threads seemingly intent on doing down WCS at every perceivable level, from the technique, the teachers, the fact we dance at an MJ event, the gendre of the music etc etc.
There are a couple of noticeable agent provocateurs as well....
I am sure there are those like me who have read them and basically (like Davesmooth) I am not really participating in any of these so called ranting debates.
It was said to me, these threads ignore what you say, they are not interested in the truth or facts, they simply twist heresay and rumours to their own ends.
Perhaps some of you can tell & we can discuss what the hell is going on and why and any preventative measures to avoid this poor PR?

I think it is like anything new or misunderstood. They choose to slate it rather than trying to understand it it is easier emoticon

I am glad somebody brought this up.

I think we need to remember the massive gap between what is required to be competent at MJ versus what is required to be competent at WCS.

My personal feeling is that those who slag us off, saying we're 'elite' snobby etc are merely threatened because they simply do not have the ability to dance a 6 or 8 count foot pattern. The same can be said for lindy hop which has suffered a similar review amongst some MJ-ers.

Remember that MJ is 'learn to dance the easy way' and technically it is not really dancing.

With comments like that, what do you expect people to think.

I am quite keen to keep this understanding the issues as to the 'whys' and 'hows' to help prevent further damage and turn it around.
Thanks.

I too have heard people say this, and modern jive being graded in terms of technicalities extremely low, due to lack of footwork. But that is its appeal and why it is so popular. And when done at advance levels, eg. Nigel & Nina, Amir, David & Lily, etc. it becomes fantastic, highly technical, and certainly not easy to learn! emoticon

Ok, interesting, so are we alienation factor here?
Its interesting that WCS is considered less technical in the US from what I have heard, or equally as complicated as you want to make it.

Less technical than what? Than the way it's danced in UK? Surely not.

Its a little off the track but WCS is seen apparently as less technical than ballroom disciplines and some of the other styles danced in the L&C.
Meanwhile back to why there is so much ill feeling from MJ seen.
I did wonder if they feel the fact that there is world class WCS pros come to Southport weekender, teach, dance, cabaret pick up £100s in privates, and the jivers do not get the same calibre of teachers, kudos or even focus at an MJ event.
Have we hi-jacked an MJ event, and they are not happy?

Interesting re. technicalities.

Hi-jacking? Hmmm, possibly. There is a significany proportion of ceroccers who dislike the wcs scene, that is for certain.
