WCS - keeping the faith

There's obvously a huge growing market for wcs in the UK. This is particuly evident as MJ'ers seek better techniques and styles that can be offered from the various franchised outlets.
Its already becoming evident that there are a number of independant & circuit 'teachers' appearing.
What's the thoughts about this developing in an uncontrolled manner.
May it lead to conflict of techniques & styles. Do we really want some genetically modified MJ /WCS hybrid lurking in our midst?
Do we need a proper controls in place to ensure WCS parallels the US's discipline, purity of development and trends?
Do we need some figure heads to provide guidance and direction?
Do we want it sucked into Franchise set ups?

This is possibly a pivotal time for WCS in the UK.
Thoughts anyone......

Whilst I understand the direction you are coming from (and the possibility that poorly trained, badly equipped opportunistic teaching could do more harm than good to the development of WCS) your whole post reads as though you feel you 'own' the dance. What you 'want' and what you 'need' are irrelevant as WCS is not anybody's property - you just have to hope that people are aware of the credentials of people like Paul and Cat and take this into account in choosing their teaching. Getting this message across would perhaps be the best way to get what you desire.

Your right it is a pivotal time for wcs, its so exciting! Franchising is probably the best way to go but there i only know three people that are capable in my eyes of doing this and that is cat paul and lee.

This is because the dance is very precious and i think only knowledge and experience is definetley the key when teaching.

I mentioned on the other forum how wcs is growing and the replies were dimissed as if it was a fad. Somehow i dont think so.
I dont mind if a hybrid develops-i can only imagine it would be similar to blues (danced in a slot) but im a technical head and wouldnt like to see the technical elemnt diluted out of the dance.

As Robert says, unfortunately nobody has ownership of the dance style. Unforunately again, we will probably see a dilution of the technicalities as Cer0c takes it on board, and possibly simplifies it for the masses. It is too difficult a style for anyone to expect a 'take off' in the same way that salsa and MJ have done. Interesting times.

Interesting stuff yesterday at our workshop about future plans for London and surrounding areas from Paul, Cat & Lee. Can't say too much as don't really know the detail but it seems promising. Whether it's a response to recent developments from c e r o c and co or whether it's always been on the agenda I don't know.

I asked some open questions. Nothing about 'me' in there.
Please do not distort meanings that are not there.
The interest is other WCS dancers thoughts on developments in what is a changing environment.

As to the use of c*r*c: Its a registered trademark / copyright and therefore some of us somewhat reluctant to use it.

So the 'We' repeatedly used in your initial post does not include the 'me' i.e you?

Interesting. I wasn't aware of that. I think it's a bit of a red herring though - IANAL but I don't believe that proceedings for trademark infringement can be brought for use of the word c e r o c in this context. If you had the smiling half-mooners logo in the familiar black and orange plastered on every page then maybe it would be different.

The Royal 'we'????
Hmmm.

I heard ceroc were soon to release the 'word' ceroc as a generic term, i.e. not protected by copyright, a bit like the word salsa. If this is the case, the independents can call their events ceroc, and use the word throughout their advertising. Could be fun!

I'd never even heard of "ceroc" before this forum. I've never seen it danced over here in our city. I've looked at some youtube clips of it and I have to admit that I really don't "get it"! It looks like people are having fun with it.....but I'm not sure that it could be even remotely compared to a dance like WCS.

It looks like some sort of mishmash of a lot of different dances. Which may be what appeals to people...you can throw pretty much whatever you want into the mix.

Mind you, you do see a lot of different dance styles appearing in WCS. When you see top country dancers dancing WCS....you can see the "countryfication" of the dance happening. Some people like to mix tango into it. But you still see some fairly consistent basics.

I don't know, educate me....what are the basic steps of "ceroc"?
