The word on the street 2007 -2008 update

There is a lot of hot goss' around and it maywell fall to a few to put some balance into rumour mill;
Paul W, - who remains the key insprirational WCS dancer teacher in the UK, is looking to keep progressing his professional career on track and this may mean he has to reduce his hectic UK teaching schedule in 2008 and beyond. All the best climbing the corporate pole Sir! Bless his cotton socks Paul, i think we all owe hime a genuine thanks and our gratitude for the scrifices, dedication and effort over the last 3-4 years.

Catemoticon) & Twickenham WCS UK's Premier teaching venue - taking a bit of time out for the month January 08 from teaching at Twickers, and keeping the venue open for freestyle only.We hope the break is good for you Cat and 2008 works out well for your future plans.

Bisley: no dates announced from Marilene as yet, still 07 not over yet. We think this is the venue that re-launched WCS and has supported it throgh thick and thin. It is a great class and people come from all over the UK for this.
Windsor new Lodge:-))
It tends to tie in with Windsor new Lodge, dates as a few can integrate the wknd in SW London if the events fall together.
For those who are unaware, it is a private event in a private venue. This was organised by a few WCS dancers to replace Surrey Ceroc pulling a weekday event. There is no exclusivity whatsover. Space is limited for Paul Buckley who runs it and he always goes the extra mile to make a cracking evening. Therefore, due to these constraints, its an invitation only event. Its self financing in terms of food drink etc are supplied and shared out, the catering is a phenominal effort & superb. Paul asks to cover his overheads and this is and has only ever been a goodwill social event.
Long may it continue.

Twyford Ceroc has sold out for its combined Jive & WCS (Cat) Xmas event! Waiting list only now.

It's good to see an update around the gossip doing the rounds at the moment - friend of a friend, 2nd and 3rd hand stuff, etc. No doubt the landscape will evolve (as the dance itself does) and let's hope that if and as people take a hiatus for whatever reasons that others can pick up and carry on the good work.

Personally, I wonder just how thriving the UK WCS scene is? There's lots of interest at weekenders but does that transmit through into regular classes? Will Twickenham thrive and survive on a freestyle only basis? Numbers at my regular class - Northampton - and at the other one I have been to a couple times - Oakwood - are OK but not great and teeter on the verge of financial viability.

Thanks to Paul B for his efforts with New Lodge - organising that isn't an enviable job.

Thanks Rob, as you rightly infer UK WCS 'organisation' is not centralised through something like WCSDS or NASDE and left to a few individuals.
Thereis not reallya teaching structure as such and again falls on the shoulders of those who can.
Jive Addiction I think are making the right moves registering their venue formally with the US WCSDS.
2008 looks like an interersting time.

Bisley monthly WC workshops by Jive Bug run by Marilene announced that Paul Warden and Cat' Wiles had decided not to continue teaching the monthly workshop effective immediately.
Lee Easton, has replaced them for the forthcoming season.
This is an exciting development as Lee offers huge amounts of very technical dance skills.

Great to hear it from the horse's mouth. Shame that 2 of the UK's top teachers are taking a bit of time out but they deserve it, no?
With regards to the progress of WCS in the UK, from where I am sitting it goes far beyond the weekenders, and there are loads of classes all over England (& elsewhere) that only popped up in the last year.
Onwards & upwards I say!

Cat & Paul's Sunday WCS workshop started very successfully with a reported over 100 WCS dancers from beginners, novice through to some of the most experienced attending the full workshop.
The format for the afternoon was three workshps, fundamentals, then a split with novices given a real opportunity to consolidate their basics with Rachel Martino.

Feedback from some of the dancers (not miy personal opinions OK, I just defend the right to an opinion) is it is still a complete mystery why the novices and those without good basics attempt advanced classes. Interesting!

Good classes, great atmosphere, Paul W at his best.
