Re: Learning from DVD/Video

A DVD as a support to beginners course is a positive step for sure. I am lucky that I have local classes that I can go to if I want (but son't make it along often enough) but sounds like you don't have this luxury. Nothing wrong with learning from dvd without going to classes, granted it's harder and not as effective, but at least with WCS some progress would be possible with the individualised male/female footwork.

Drawbacks of this site have already been discussed here

Good concept though!

I'm learning from dvd's. Collecting range from beginner to advanced. Practise with group of friends on regular basis. Pleased with progress and pleased with dvd's. Can practise anytime anywhereas small group or individually, so flexible. Also got permanent record of moves and tips etc., that might forget otherwise. Seems like agood investment to me.

DVD's made by Michael Kiehm. Link to his website on Cat's website. Put it on last message before, but was edited off!

Good idea, I'm building up a fair collection, have 7 so far. Lucky that you have a group of like-minded dancers who are motivated to practise with you. Who is Michael Kiehm btw?

Michael Kiehm runs Starlight Dance Studios in San Diego. He produces (in my view) a fine collection of dance dvd's that are clear and easy to follow. You can see him dance in the archives for the 2004 Jack and Jill contest with Deborah Szekely at www.swingdiego.com. Hope that helps.

Sure I ordered mine from his website www.starlightdance.com (if I'm allowed to say). Takes between 2 to 4 weeks. You can see clips/previews of some of them on the site. Who's dvd's can you recommend?
