Think we've established there's a slight lean back, body is upright, arms slightly bent and settle back until you 'feel' where your partner's at. There's a degree of tension, compression and resistance (constantly changing) required to achieve effective connection.

Ok, the 'lean back thing' is a weight placement situation. See the notes on centering and developing the frame and dancing from the sternum, I know you like it when I say, 'Boobs out, stomach in, bum puckered'. Get the image.
Hmmmm its tough to describe but imagine a rope pulling you up from top of your head making posture very upright.
Roll the shoulders, up back round and down creating tension in the laterial muscles.
Suck the tum in and attitude with the bum bit. Does this ache yet? You are probably in the zone. keeping the weight above the sternum upright, feel the hips drive forward etc for the follow. When you connect, try not to let the top of the tower collapse stay over the feet and hips keeping the weight controlled. Let it drft at the midrift and below.

Well thankyou, being away a lot, ooo errrr Paris (eeeeeeeek), Southport, have you not spotted me yet?
Been v busy Whippy doing lots of domestic things as well as Coasting.

In particular, how much should we allow our arms to stretch when in open posn?

And the legs, straight? Slightly bend? Bit of both?

Ho hum stretch!
This is very tough to write about so will try some bite size chunks and thread it a little to get some debate going.

I guess initailly its important to say we think of the Follow using str' more than the Lead.
Misconception - perhaps but I guess this its a matter of where you are at in development.
Do not get to hung up on it as it is a more advanced concept.

However, initally where we need to use stretch is releasing the follow to send the weight backwarss through the stomach on the & of 6.
This is done by releasing the arm a little, i.e giving some stretch.

Follows, I know we dwell in basics sometimes but here's food for thought.
If you are hyper extended to start, how caa you get anymore stretch without making strnge shapes and releasing the frame? It cannot be done, so intiailly revisit your basic position and frame and see if there is enough room to allow stretch.
If you can't find any without compromising your frame, its already to extended and released.
