Appreciate some feedback before diving into this;
If it were suggested that lead was a function of frame and therefore tension in the torso would that be an acceptale concept.
Equally would follows be able to read leads if their frames including their arms were connected with some tension.

'Tension' the area between compression and extension.

That is the way a lot of leads dance, no? If they are 'body leading' then they need stability in their core, i.e. their torso, and that is achieved via a degree of tension. Re. arm tension, difficult one that. Shouldn't the arms merely be a communication of what the body is doing, without leading their own dance?

Good point Rosie.
Tend to agree the arms generally following the body.
The arms therefore simply an extension.
Heidi G' is a huge advocate of the torso shift, and this being big and less appearing at the extremities.
Note she is highly influenced by Latin styles, which adds a lot.

Great dancers.
Body/torso initiating movement really clear.

I have been practicing...(revelation- it works)... as bad habits were creeping in.
So where does this go?
Pointer: WCS understated dance ...its subtle so less is more.
I have been over prep'ing generally. The impact is a double edged sword. Its leads Follows into bad practices, breaks their frames and reduces their sensitivies to when you actually wish to communicate a move / pattern.
Equally Leads tend to over compensate for 'no action' from the Follow. Its a kind of decreasing return law.
So leads we must be firm and not send noise down the line.
Another poor habit is hyper extension with my arms and I have brought them back to maximum elbow to torso of about 75mm. This foreshortens the travelling anchor of Follow. The net result is the follow has more time to vary anchoring and playing. Also the Lead ahs more scope to reign the Follow back and steer with the body.
Try and let me know how you get on..

I don't like being over-prep-ed. SOmetimes if the guy wants to lead a big spin/wrap, the last one is bigger than the previous. Basic preps need to be subtle so you can feel the difference.
Less IS more, I have been working on this for a while too as a follower.

Avoiding arm hyper-extension makes a big difference to how you look as a dancer. As you say (Cpl Whip), it leads to less travelling and more time at the end of the slot. So the dance looks less frantic and much tighter as a whole. Less is more, for sure.

Btw, nice picture, Rosie. Is that you, and if so, what are you doing if you don't mind me asking?

Nah it's not me, much as I'd like it to be, but I do partake in a bit of pole-dancing now and again emoticon
