Queeny's Summer Travels PART 2...
OK gang...that other thread was getting really long and with so many pictures it's hard for anyone on dial-up (or WiFi, like me!) to load the pages....so I shall start PART TWO!
Starting with Cheyenne, Wyoming!
quote: A bit of HISTORY...
History
On July 4, 1867, General Grenville M. Dodge and his survey crew platted the site now known as Cheyenne (Dakota Territory, later Wyoming Territory). There were many from a hundred miles around who felt the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad through the area would bring them prosperity. By the time the first track was built into Cheyenne four months later (November 13), over four thousand people had migrated into the new city. Because Cheyenne sprang up like magic, according to newspaper editors visiting from the East, it became known as "Magic City of the Plains"[citation needed].
Those who stayed and did not leave with the westward construction of the railroad were joined by gamblers, saloon owners, thieves, opportunists, prostitutes, displaced cowboys, miners, transient railroad gangs, proper business men, soldiers from "Camp Cheyenne," later named Fort D.A. Russell (now F.E. Warren Air Force Base), and men from Camp Carlin, a supply camp for fifteen[citation needed] northern army posts on the frontier.
The city was not named by Grenville Dodge as his memoirs state, but rather by his friends who accompanied him to the area Dodge called "Crow Creek Crossing." It was named for the Native American Cheyenne nation ("Shay-an"), one of the most famous and prominent Great Plains tribes closely allied with the Arapaho. The Cheyenne were among the fiercest fighters on the plains. Not pleased with the changes brought about by the railroad, they had harassed both railroad surveyors and construction crews.
As the capital of the Wyoming Territory and the only city of any consequence, as well as being the seat of the stockyards where cattle were loaded on the Union Pacific Railroad, the city's Cheyenne Club was the natural meeting place for the organization of the large well-capitalized ranches called the Wyoming Stock Growers Association. (See Johnson County War of 1892, the largest of the "range wars" of early Wyoming history). The newspaper offices of Asa Shinn Mercer's Northwestern Livestock Journal were burned down when the paper, which was founded as a public relations vehicle for the moneyed cattle interests, began to write scathing accounts of the events that were unfolding on the open range. His account is told in his book The Banditti of the Plains,.
As a town created by the railroad, Cheyenne fittingly preserves one of the eight surviving Union Pacific Big Boy locomotives ("4004"), some of the largest steam locomotives ever built, designed for hauling freight over the Rocky Mountains at high speeds. These engines typically hauled 100 freight cars up ruling grades between Cheyenne and Ogden, Utah, at 50 miles per hour. The locomotive now resides in Holliday park in central Cheyenne. The Union Pacific's last live-steam engines still reside in Cheyenne. The Challenger 3985 and the Northern 844, UP's last steam passenger engine, are maintained there. They are used for display and excursions across the county.
Alferd Packer, the only American ever convicted of cannibalism (though the official charge was murder since cannibalism is not a crime in the United States), was apprehended north of Fort Laramie and was taken to jail in Cheyenne, March 11, 1883.
Tom Horn, the notorious Pinkerton's agent who had been operating as a hit man for the Wyoming Stock Growers Association, was hanged in Cheyenne for a murder that he probably did not commit on November 20, 1903, the day before his 43rd birthday.
The Wyoming Telephone and Telegraph Company published the first telephone directory in the United States in Cheyenne in 1881. Due to a shortage of white paper, it was printed on yellow paper instead which started the tradition of the "yellow pages" phone directory.
Now for the Pictures...
THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD (as mentioned above)
THE RAILROAD MUSEUM (in downtown Cheyenne)
CHEYENNE DEPOT MUSEUM INFORMATION LINK
(all over town they have these decorated Cowboy boots, each much be about 8 to 10 feet tall)
THIS IS THE WRANGLER JEANS FACTORY
THIS IS THE GIANT 300 FOOT BISON, that advertises the TERRY BISON RANCH AND RV RESORT that we are staying at.
ONE OF THEY'RE SMALLER BISON HERDS......THIS ONE CAN BE SEEN FROM THE CAMPGROUND. (They actually are a working ranch and have over 27,000 acres)
A COUPLE OF THE COWBOYS WHO WORK THE RANCH.....SHORT CUTTING THROUGH THE PARK....(and if this does not say...OLD WEST...then nothing does!)
AND THIS I JUST THOUGHT WAS FUNNY....IT'S A BIG OLD GUN IN FRONT OF THE RECRUITER STATION HERE.....BUT CHECK OUT THE SIGN ACROSS THE STREET! (No wonder they need hearing aids!)

Re: Queeny's Summer Travels PART 2...
Chris and I just got back from our Morning walk.....so we have a few more of the Ranch itself.
First the link to the Ranch...
TERRY BISON RANCH LINK
Some of the buildings.
And yes that sign does say, "Prehistoric Buffalo Chip, over 5000 years old" (it looks like a pile of dirt to me! )
These ARE the actual working pickup trucks for the ranch....and yes two of them are Willy's
But if you thought those trucks were old.......these are at the front entrance to the Park.......they are HORSE DRAWN SNOW PLOWS! (Chris is in front of one)
Some of the local "residents"...including a few odd balls. I mean nothing says "OLD WEST" like Camels, Ostriches and Llama's!
A few more normal RANCH critters
I just LOVE this next picture! Hubby said it looked "fake", so I also included the original one I took before I cropped out the garbage.
And of course.....what is the OLD WEST without the ever present.....JACKALOPE!!! This one is in the office and little kids can get they're picture taken on it!)
Legend
The legend of the jackalope has bred the rise of many outlandish (and largely tongue-in-cheek) claims as to the creature's habits. For example, it is said to be a hybrid of the pygmy-deer and a species of "killer-rabbit". Reportedly, jackalopes are extremely shy unless approached. Legend also has it that female jackalopes can be milked as they sleep belly up and that the milk can be used for a variety of medicinal purposes. It has also been said that the jackalope can convincingly imitate any sound, including the human voice. It uses this ability to elude pursuers, chiefly by using phrases such as "There he goes! That way!". It is said that a jackalope may be caught by putting a flask of whiskey out at night. The jackalope will drink its fill of whiskey and its intoxication will make it easier to hunt. In some parts of the United States it is said that jackalope meat has a taste similar to lobster. However, legend has it that they are dangerous if approached. It has also been said that jackalopes will only breed during electrical storms including hail, explaining its rarity.
Humor
In the American West, mounted heads and postcards of jackalopes are a popular item in some novelty stores. Jackalope legends are sometimes used by locals to play tricks on tourists. This joke was employed by Ronald Reagan to reporters in 1980 during a tour of his California ranch. Reagan had a rabbit head with antlers, which he referred to as a "jackalope", mounted on his wall. Reagan liked to claim that he had caught the animal himself. Reagan's jackalope hangs on the ranch's wall to this day.
Some local governments, such as Douglas, Wyoming, have issued jackalope hunting licenses to tourists. The tags are good for hunting during official jackalope season, which occurs for only one day, February 30th.

Re: Queeny's Summer Travels PART 2...
I've gone tubing down the "Owen's River" by Bishop, CA...it IS fun!
Ok gang here are the pictures from last nights trip to the MUSEUM OF THE ROCKIES (link)
We completely enjoyed ourselves. Not the biggest museum by far, but with more than enough to satisfy our interests.
UNFORTUNATELY......we were only able to take pictures in a few areas. The "GLOW, NATIVE AMERICAN AND OUT OF THIS WORLD EXTRAORDINARY COSTUMES FROM FILM AND TELEVISION" were off limits to cameras.
I snagged a few things from those off the WEB, but they are pretty secretive about them.
So....here is what I snagged about the costumes and such and some info.....then following are the Dinosaur pictures I took!
quote: OUT OF THIS WORLD
Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television
In the movies and on television, costume design is often overlooked, but it plays a crucial role in defining the characters we love, and those we love to hate. Out of this World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television reveals elements of costume design while treating you to an up-close look at some of the most amazing clothing ever worn. This exhibit features more than 30 authentic costumes and props from some of the most well-known movies and television shows of all time.
Some of the highlights include the Wicked Witch of the West’s hat from the 1939 Wizard of Oz film; Darth Vader’s helmet, cape and lightsaber; Luke Skywalker’s flight suit; George Clooney’s Batman outfit; Indiana Jones’ leather jacket; and lots of costumes and props from the original Star Trek series and its spin-offs.
Visitors can enjoy coming face-to-face with some of the most iconic movie outfits ever made and enjoy film clips of many of the costumes in action. Additional exhibit highlights are the leather jacket worn by Around Schwarzenegger in The Terminator; and costumes from the movies Blade Runner, The Highlander, and Ghost Busters.
DARTH VADER and Storm Trooper helmet
Batman....Nipple suit worn by George Clooney

DINOSAURS.....first one of "BIG AL" at night.....he's outside at the entrance!
And MINE....from outside...
Now the inside ones...
