Vermont trip, Pt. II - Adirondack Museum

Ok, so the Adirondack Museum is a museum tracing the history and heritage of the Adirondack region. It's really a fascinating place.

This guy was in the first building we went to (the picture doesn't do justice to just how big he really is!):

Image

The pond in the center of the musem grounds (that's a genuine Adirondack fishing tent on the far side):

Image

An up close look at the tent:

Image

There were trout in the pond (you can just make one out in this shot):

Image

They let the kids feed them and the trout jump out of the water, it's really cool to see but I couldn't catch it on film...too fast!

Here's Miss Polly looking at the fish:

They had various replica buildings you could go into or look into. This is an Adirondack camping cottage:

Image

They also had a whole bunch of carriages and sleighs, and my favorite mode of transportation, the private rail car:

Image

You could walk through the car. This is the sitting room:

Image

And a pullman room with a bunk (there were also two FULL bedrooms with brass beds, and a full bath!):

One of our favorite things was the display of miniatures. Here's my niece, Sarah, looking at it:

Image

And a close up view (of PART of it...couldn't get the whole thing in one shot!). Those chairs and things are all HAND MADE:

Image

And the tiniest chairs of all (the one on the right is the size of a finger nail!):

From small chairs to huge...my niece, Sarah, and nephew, James, in one:

Image

And Miss Polly and my SIL in the other, which was at the museum entrance:

Image

And finally, a close up of my SIL and Miss Polly (I just thought this one was adorable, so I threw it in!)

AWWWWWW....Miss Polly's expression in that last photo is SOOOOOOOOO PRICELESS....she is so adorable....

The next time hubby is up and about I'm going to get him to take a look at the minitatures...he makes Doll house furniture...and one of his pride and joy is a recliner that actually reclines. and a rolltop desk that actually rolls up and the drawers open etc...he sold that little 1" to the Foot scale desk for 75.00 to a woman that fell in love with it (all of his furniture works just the real piece--drawers/doors open...drop leaf tables that spread apart to allow the extra leaf to be placed etc)...He loves working with his hands--he uses toothpicks, wooden skrewers, wooden coffee stirrers, popcycle sticks and Basal wood (of various sizes) and then he'll use either the clipped off ends of dress pins, brass tacks etc for the various handles/knobs

OH SUE!!! Those are great! I could easily live in those cabins!! And my butt might actually fit in one of those HUGE chairs!
Those Miniatures are out of this world!
GRANNY it's so cool that your hubby can do that kind of work......I can barely see it, let alone work with stuff that tiny!!!!
I love that kind of stuff.....we always visit, the Pioneer stuff, recreations and stuff.......
But I have to tell you.....Miss Polly is a little doll! I am so glad you 'threw' that last one in........ emoticon
Your Niece and nephew look like a fun couple of teens too.... emoticon
Again, SUE......you have outdone yourself, and I thank you so much!

Wow Granny, it sounds like your husband does amazing work. I'd love to see some of his pieces, they sound awesome! And he would really appreciate this display...the photos hardly do them justice, if you can believe that!

Queeny - I could live in that private rail car! If I had all the money in the world, I'd buy me one of those!

Thanks for the compliments on the kiddos...Polly is a doll. It's almost impossible to get a bad picture of her.

And James is 16, but Sarah is not a teen anymore - she's 20. She's still a teen at heart, though. And they are a great pair of kids - we had a complete blast on this trip.

Glad everyone enjoyed!!

I saw on HGTV channel once.......a show called, oh....something like Strange or Out of this world or Unusual HOUSES...
And one of them was a Railroad car.....and it was gorgeous!
Personally, out of those shows I liked the "Hobbit" house! emoticon

Saw them and commented on them! emoticon

And there were a few of those extreme homes I'd have gladly lived in too...especially if I could get Carter Oosterhouse to do my repair work! :cunning: emoticon

Hey...what good is having a great house if you don't have a hunky carpenter to help, ahem, "maintain" things. :cunning: emoticon
