Amazing white tiger....
These incredible photos are of a White Bengal Tiger named Odin.
Odin is six years old and 10 feet long from tail to nose.
Odin lives at a waterpark in Vallejo, Calif., near San Francisco.
Odin with his British trainer Lee Munro.
Odin was hand-raised at the zoo. And after he was weaned,
his British trainer Lee Munro discovered his remarkable skill.
When a lump of meat was thrown into a pool of water, Odin
would happily dive in after it. 'He makes a funny face - and it's
actually to close his nostrils to stop the water from going into his nose.'
Not all big cats enjoy the water, but for Tigers from the
hot climate of South-East Asia , it's one way to cool down.
'Plus they hunt in and around water. They're an ambush
predator so they wait for prey to come down to the water.'
'When you actually see him dive underwater
he looks so graceful,'
'Odin loves the water and he loves food,' he said. 'Not all
big cats will dive and swim underwater even for meat treats.'
Munro said tigers were the most powerful swimmers
out of all land-dwelling animals.
Tragically, within our lifetimes, zoos might be the
only places left to see these magnificent animals.
A century ago there were about 100,000 tigers in the wild.
Now there are just 2,500 adults, with the Bengal variety
almost extinct. None has been seen in the wild since
the last white tiger was shot and killed in 1958.
White tigers are the most rare. They get their white color from
an unusual and extremely rare genetic combination.

Re: Amazing white tiger....
I hadn't seen those pics ...and I was just browsing the web for photos and info on all the different breeds of Tigers for an 8 year old girl's school project--(she doesn't have a computer and she needed pics too)
I absolutely love the White Tigers...but in truth they're all magnificent creatures.

Re: Amazing white tiger....
the girl has to turn in the project tomorrow...and I pulled up over 2 dozen photos and about the same number of articles concerning Tigers...(her mom is going to help her--I doubt the Teacher is going to expect a huge report ... at least not for an 8 year old) I gave her mom a few suggestions to help her so I guess I won't know how she did until Monday or Tuesday.

Re: Amazing white tiger....
She brought home a bunch of books on Tigers from the School library but they were not that informative...(I think she picked up one that contained fairy tales from India...and they were just beyond her comprehension....the other books were also more in-line for a 6th grader than a 2nd grader....Her mom doesn't have a car and public library is 4 miles away (and no bus-line from where she lives)...I tried to pull up articles from National Geographic for Kids and several other children sources.
It's up to her to glean what she needs from what I pulled up for her so technically she will be doing the research (reading the different articles)...
I understand what you mean..but there are circumstances that allows a little outside help (I wrote down--on each article-- where it came from because that was one of the requirements--listing the sources she used for the information)
I remember helping Maria (my youngest daughter) on various projects and I had to keep on her to finish reading the various information then I had to help her with putting the information on paper with out it being verbatum...(my daughter was a slow learner as well as dislexous---I know I spelled that wrong--so it was a constant struggle for her)

Re: Amazing white tiger....
Oh...Queeny...I knew you weren't coming down on me for helping...but I thought I'd go a head and explain the circumstances of why I chose to help her...K could have taken the mother and daughter to the public Library but with everything going on in his and O's life I understood why he hadn't offered.
And I agree the idea of the Tiger knowing instinctively how to close off his nasal tracts like that is ultraly amazing. And he's beyond cute and beautiful.
