Batman The Long Halloween VII: St. Patrick’s Day

Batman
The Long Halloween
Part VII
St. Patrick’s Day

Based off the Comic Book miniseries The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale

Gotham City
March 16th

Gotham Penitentiary was a dark and lonely place, like Arkham it is home to some of Gotham’s harshest criminals that weren’t insane enough to go to Arkham. The weather was warmer then normal a thunderstorm rumbled outside and the rain poured in through the window openings. A single guard walked the halls towards solitary where he had been sent to retrieve a prisoner. An early parole had been ordered for some reason, but it wasn’t the guard’s job to think about it. The cell was off at the far end of the hall far away from the other prisoners. This wasn’t done to protect the prisoner from the others but to protect the others from the prisoner. Gotham Penitentiary was one of the only prisons to house both male and female prisoners. They were kept apart but once in a while one of the men get into the female half. This is why the prisoner is in solitary, a male prisoner sent to the prison on assault, rape, attempted rape and drug position. Both Batman and Batgirl had taken him down before he could assault another woman. He was a bad man, coming into the woman’s area he found someone he shouldn’t have met. Sofia Falcone Gigante, the Roman’s only daughter and in her own right someone not to be messed with. Over 6 feet tall she lived up to her name Gigante, she was also strong as an ox. When the man confronted Sofia, she snapped the man’s arms like twigs the scream could be heard all the way to the warden’s office. When the guards arrived the attacker was laid out on the ground his arms and legs broken and Sofia was seated at a table as if nothing had happened. Ever since then, for six months, she had been locked away in a far corner of the prison so no one would be injured or even killed. Coming to the cell door the guard pulled out the keys.

“Step away from the door,” the man turned the key unlocking the door. A group of guards stepped forward, one placing her in handcuffs and escorted her to the main gate. Stopping just before they entered the storm outside the guard quickly unlocked the handcuffs. “Early parole, you’ll be back.”

Entering the world Sofia paused as a single car pulled up and waited for her to enter. Never one to keep her father waiting she quickly got in the back and watched as the prison turned into a forest and then into the city of Gotham. Soon they were pulling in front of the Falcone penthouse. Stepping out of the car she entered the front doors and made her way to the elevator that took her to the top floor.

“Everything go smoothly,” Falcone opened the door allowing her to enter.

“Yes sir,” Sofia removed the hat she had been wearing. “I missed you poppa.”

“You’ve been gone to long my darling Sofia,” Carmine placed his hands on her broad shoulders. “The family needs you know, I need you. My Sofia.”

*****

Batman wasn’t normally at a loss but seeing what Catwoman had been doing the last few weeks has but him there. Never one to follow the law she was at least a low level criminal who at the same time did her part to fight against the Falcone crime family. Lately though she had been stealing from people Batman didn’t believe disserved to be robbed. One of the places she had broken into had been Wayne Enterprises, nothing had been stolen but she had to be stopped and he had to figure out what led to this sudden crime spree. With no clues as to where she would strike next Batman remained in the Batmobile monitoring the police bands hoping to hear anything leading to where he might find her. Most of the chatter was confined to the Holiday hunt, with another holiday coming in a few hours the police were on guard for any signs of the killer. What worried Batman and Gordon was that the police didn’t really seem to care that much. The basic feeling was that the Falcone’s deserve what they get, while deep down he was prone to agree it was the lives of the innocents that Batman did care about. Nine people ended up dying as a result of the Holiday’s attack on Valentines Day, only four of them were members of Maroni’s crew. The rest were normal everyday people celebrating with a night out at Maroni’s restaurant, 4 were killed in the blast of the exploding car the last one died a few days later of his injuries, which put the total dead at 17 people.

Just before midnight the word he had been waiting for came, Catwoman had been seen breaking into the offices of a local chemical plant. Starting the Batmobile he sped off towards the building as the central counsel listed off everything Batman had on the building. One fact struck him above all others; the plant had been experimenting on plant life. Coming to a stop behind the building he just barely saw Catwoman swing across the alley, targeting her with the tracking systems of the Batmobile he stepped on the gas to follow Catwoman to where ever she was going. She continued across the roof tops for another mile before coming to a stop near Gotham City Central Park, where she used her bullwhip to slide down the side of the building and enter the park. Leaving the Batmobile, Batman entered the park near where she had and continued to follow her.

*****

Batgirl crouched down behind an old gothic statue that sat on the ledge of the building she had been using to watch the Slums. There wasn’t anything special about the building other then it was tall and someone could see the entire section of Gotham City called the Slums. At its peek the building had been a crown jewel of the city, the center of the city at one time. Back when the sums was the entertainment center of the district, before the economy collapsed and the cities elite fled to the newer part of the city which grew into what it was now. Once the business left the poor moved in and the crime rose turning it into what was mostly called the Slums. With the reports of a masked crime fighter making the rounds Batman had sent her to investigate, short of going down on the street and seeing if she could have him turn up this was the best way to do it. If it came down to being bate she would have to do it but it didn’t seem to be down to that just yet. She would however rather be helping in the hunt for Holiday, things weren’t looking like they would be able to catch who ever he or she was. With Batman distracted by Catwoman’s crime spree Batgirl has had to keep an eye out for this stranger. Checking her watch for the fifth time, she was almost counting the minutes before she could leave and get out of the rain.

*****

Across town at Police Headquarters, Jim Gordon stood at the window watching the rain pour down pass the window, after a cold and snowy winter it was nice to see it raining for once. The experts had called it an El Nino and some were even saying Global Warming but he wasn’t to worried about what happened last Winter. He was more focused as he had been for months on both Falcone and Holiday. Behind him Harvey Dent, the District Attorney, was looking over the files spread out across Gordon’s desk. A small gang war was coming to a head between The Roman and Maroni, each accusing the other of being Holiday as a result the body count was going up.

“Sweet,” Harvey commented as he tossed a film on the desk. “We’ve got bodies piling up all over the city. Maroni thinks Falcone is Holiday so he’s taking it out on his family. Got to love thugs like this, they all want to do our job for us.”

“Our jobs,” Gordon turned to look at Dent. “Our jobs don’t include murder. I want to stop Falcone and the rest of his goons but not like this. Its not supposed to be like this at all.”

“Of course, I’m sorry,” Harvey replied. “Don’t give it a second thought. So what do you want to do about Bruce Wayne, and his connection to The Roman, he’s avoided us for 3 months now.”

“Green.” Gordon replied as he turned back to the window barely hearing Harvey’s response. “When I was growing up in Chicago they would close the schools so we could go to the parades downtown. The City would turn the river green; the kids would think it was the leprechauns. We all think of green this time of year, now its red, blood red. St. Patrick’s Day is almost here and we are still no closer to catching this mad man Holiday.”

“What about Wayne?” Dent grabbed his coat to leave.

“Put it on the back burner,” Gordon replied. “Maroni is the weak link, focus on him for now.”

“Two for one,” Dent smiled not knowing they were being spied on. “I like it.”

*****

The rain was still falling as Sofia pulled up to the house Carla Viti was living in as she stayed in Gotham City. She had left the family in the care of her daughter Lucia Viti while she looked for Holiday in Gotham City to avenge the death of her son, Holiday’s first victim, Johnny. Sofia had already met with her father and learned about what had been happing now it was time to visit her Aunt to inform her of The Roman’s plans for the next morning. Getting no answer at the door, she entered the house and made her way to the basement where she found Carla taking target practice.

“I rang the bell,” She placed her large hand on Carla’s arm. “There was no answer; I’m not interrupting anything now am I Aunt Carla?”

“Sofia,” Carla turned around and hugged her niece. “Your father didn’t say you were getting out. I swear I can just kill him sometimes.”

“Father pulled some strings with one of the few judges still in our pockets,” Sofia explained.

“You see this gun,” Carla put the gun closer to her face; she could still smell the gun powder. “It’s the gun that killed your brother; I took it from the scene. It’s the same kind of gun that was used to kill my Johnny. I’m going to take this and use it to kill this Holiday.”

“Does father know you have that,” Sofia asked as she looked down at the gun.

“He does now, doesn’t he,” Carla half smiled as she turned back to the target.

“Aunt Carla I was sent out of respect,” Sofia got down to business. “My father sent me to tell you that he’s going t hit Maroni tomorrow Morning on St. Patrick’s Day. He believes Maroni either is Holiday or knows who it is. Will you stand against us?”

“Now that Carmine has that banking thing taken care of, things are as they should be,” Carla held out her hand as Sofia bent down to kiss the knuckles. “I won’t stand in the way.”

“Thank you Aunt Carla,” Sofia stood up to her full height and turned to leave.

*****

Batman had tracked Catwoman to the park where he now tracked her from a distance keeping her in full view as he made sure she didn’t escape his view. A rash of robberies the last two weeks all traced back to Catwoman but they were strange out of the normal for Catwoman. She tended to be low on the crime scale if there was one, nothing to major, that was until two weeks ago when Catwoman was seen breaking into the office of the head of Gotham City University’s Botany department. Batman had an idea of what was happening but he couldn’t be sure until Catwoman brought what ever it was that she stole to where she was going. He was ready if he was right about what was going on, he had brought along a toxin that will break any mind control. Coming to a stop Batman could see the full field in front of him as Catwoman came to a stop and laid the box she had taken on the ground at her feet. Just as Batman had thought Poison Ivy stepped out of a grove of trees towards Catwoman who stood still giving no signs that she even knew she was coming. Reaching for the sound and vision enhancements in his cowl he could listen in as well as get a better picture.

“Well done,” Poison Ivy bent over to pick up the box. Using a free hand she stroked Catwoman’s cheek. Batman pulled the newest weapon in his arsenal out from its hiding place. It looked like a normal batarang but it could zero in on the target and hit it no mater what the target tried, much like a radar guided missile. Placing the toxin in the empty compartment in the batarang he programmed it to explode when it reached the duo. If it went well Catwoman would break free from Ivy’s control and Ivy would be stunned. Throwing the Batarang Batman watched as Poison Ivy leaned in to kiss Catwoman on the lips, just before she was able to place the poisoned kiss the batarang exploded sending both women to the ground. Catwoman looked around her eyes full of confusion. Seeing Ivy she jumped at the woman and pinned her to the ground, when Batman arrived Catwoman had her claws at Ivy’s neck, her face and arms were already covered in cuts.

“Easy Catwoman,” Batman grabbed hold of her arm and pulled her away from Poison Ivy.

“No one messes with my mind and gets away with it,” Catwoman growled.

“She wont,” Batman placed Ivy in hand cuffs and pulled the woman to her feet. “The police will deal with her.”

“Thanks for helping me, I could see what was going on but I couldn’t stop myself,” Catwoman placed her hands on Batman’s chest and leaned in closer so her mouth was mere inches from Batman’s. “How can I thank you.”

“You don’t have to,” Batman backed away from her as he heard the police sirens coming. “The Police will be here soon.”

“Then I better go,” Catwoman purred as she began to back away from Batman. As soon as the lights of the cop cars pointed at the scene Poison Ivy lay bound and gagged with no signs of Batman or Catwoman. Batman continued to watch as the police loaded Ivy into the back of the Police car and drove off towards the nearest Jail.

*****

Barbra checked the clock as she entered the house, it was almost midnight, and her father wasn’t home. Not to much of a surprise these days with Holiday bound to strike at anytime tomorrow she could be sure he wouldn’t see him until she stopped by the office or Holiday struck, which ever would come first it seemed. She had little luck finding this new comer to Gotham’s crime fighting team, but it did give her something to do rather then set at home alone. Slipping into her PJ’s she made sure there was food ready incase her dad came home and went off the sleep.

*****

The streets were empty as a single car pulled up in front of Maroni’s safe house it was a little after 5am and the building was already active with people walking about in the lobby of the building. They were getting ready for what was bound to be another holiday marked with blood. Most had been up since midnight waiting for the slightest movements, Sal knew Carmine thought he was or at least knew who Holiday is just as he thought Carmine was or knew who Holiday was. Things were close to exploding into all out civil war. Outside the building a lone figure got out of the car and approached the front door, pulling two guns out from under the long coat the figure pointed the guns at the doors and opened fire. Reloading he entered through the doors to find several men laying blood pouring out of their wounds. With a clear view the figure opened fire again going for the kill shots. Once the job was done a small leprechaun was placed on the threshold along with the normal clues of a gun some shell casings and a rubber baby bottle nipple. Entering the car the killer now known as Holiday pulled off and disappeared into the March morning, once the car was out of sight another car pulled up to the front of the building.

“Stop the car,” Sofia Gigante called out as she rolled the window down to get a better look. With a clear view she could see a few of the bodies along with the Holiday clues. “Someone beat us to the pinch, this will change things.”

Up in the top floor Sal Maroni peered out the window to watch this second car as it stopped in front of the house, he had gone to the mattresses as it was called after New Years when Carmine had basically called Sal out. He had been a sleep until the sounds of gun fire woke him up.

“Holiday,” Maroni backed away from the window hoping no one saw him.

Coming Next Time…
-Batman and Falcone look for Holiday
-Dent continues his quest to bring down Bruce Wayne
-The Riddler comes face to face with Holiday

Dang! Another nail-biter!! LOVED THAT.....kept me reading till the end......and it moved along really well, not a slow, dull moment in the whole thing. emoticon

Noticed a few mistakes..... emoticon
At its peek the building had been a crown jewel of the city, the center of the city at one time. Back when the sums was the entertainment center of the district,

(should be slum again, not sums)

“Stop the car,” Sofia Gigante called out as she rolled the window down to get a better look. With a clear view she could see a few of the bodies along with the Holiday clues. “Someone beat us to the pinch, this will change things.”

(did you mean for that to be "beat us to the pinch"? or Punch? "Pinch is an actual word for taking someone down")

But the story is absolutely :divine:

I could see how BANE could be a problem....as he's very complex.......mostly bad, but he's occasionally done good. (bringing down drug lords and such).
So, I take it you did not like the Wrestler "Jeep Swenson" (Robert Alexander Swenson Jr.) who played him in that spin-off..."The Batman"??
Perhaps because they made him seem like a simplistic and thug-like DOOF!

now not a fan of that Bane he was so much smarter
he really was Batman's rival in every way not just strength. He figured out who Batman really was by studying the habits of several people who had the means to be Batman.

When I get to bringing in Bane I'll be staying true to his Comic version and away from the Movie and cartoons.

I have a few choices all wrestlers
Like current wrestlers Batista, Kane, Matt Bloom
those being my top three choices, mostly due to size and build all are between 6'6" and 7' and around 300 lbs.
Others include Triple H, Mark Henry, Chris Masters, Goldberg and The Rock all but Henry are 6'4" the hight of the actor who played him in the film. and have the big builds I would need.

"THE ROCK"?!?!?! You mean......Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? I have always loved him.....as a wrestler and as a person......even as an actor!( freakin' loved him as The Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns and The Rundown and Walking Tall!)
He seems very intelligent too (as he was one of a very few who actually went through a University);)
Image
He just has a natural charisma, that comes across in everything he does....
Guess you know who my choice would be! emoticon

he would be a choice I would make as well
Batista and Kane both were on Smallville but I doubt I'll be using the characters they played since they were killed. Though Kane's character could always return as some Lex Clone

well the character he played was a prisoner who escaped from the Phantom Zone and Clark had to deal with so it would fit that Lex Luthor would try and clone him down the line to try and kill Superman
